Help!

First of all, thanks for all your forum posts. Bladeforums has been absolutely amazing for my entry into the knife world. I am loving my Becker merchandise. Along with Equip II Endure and perhaps Nutnfancy, your guys' posts and opinions are part and parcel in my money-making decisions and my foray into the wild wild world of the forest!

I currently own a BK 9 and a BK 2.

I love them (especially the BK9! - ordering another one just in case). I love being someone who has the equipment to help provide an experience - and that feeling of chopping - POWER!

I am mostly chopping and batoning - but I'd like to be able to use these for basically whatever comes up. I see myself really embracing a wood lifestyle - I've been raised in cities and suburbs all my life so there's a certain level of greenhorn here that you'll just have to accept! :P.
---

So here I am: It's a little difficult for me to find satisfactory reviews on either one.

What are your thoughts?
What do you use your BKs for?
What are your experiences?

Thank you for anything you have to share. I'll see it all as relevant to my interests. Look, feel, whatever.

P.S. I think you guys have convinced me to drop the cash to get micarta handles.... :P

Neither! Between the 2 and the 9 I really dont see the point in getting either of those, youve essentially bought two knives that round out your kit well enough that you should buy something else. Get a couple of custom sheaths and sets of micarta to quench that hankering for a new blade.

I'd get the 5, got my 7 yesterday and it terms of chopping power it is signifigantly lower than the 2's. Might be because I'm more used to my 2 (which is custom and not in any way like the stock version) than the 7 but still...

Bk5. Magnum camp. How the west was won. Why the sky is blue. When you own one, colors are brighter, food tastes sweeter. Oh and it does everything better. Its my favorite.

Or get a bk15, and hone your minimalist bush skills. Build shelter and fire without chopping or batoning. That's when you know you've made it

My next will be the 5 or the 15 or maybe both.
After getting an 11 and 14, i did the same as you and got a 2 and 9.
The 7 is too much like the 9

Hey Ocean......

Might I suggest an 11 or a 16 ?.........An 11 is ALWAYS with you and can do an astonishing amount of stuff and the 16 is a tad bigger and light and handy enough to be almost as ubiquitous about your person.....Thanks for buying my knives and I am delighted that we got us a new convert to the woods.....YEAH !!!!!!!!!!........

Thanks for dropping by the neighborhood.......

All Best.....

Ethan

What Ethan said. Though I'm sure what he MEANT to say was 11,14, or 16. :D
I'm ordering a BK7 today as soon as I move some money around in the accounts.

Watch the Nutnfancy advice. He speaks highly of some production knives that have failure vids peppered all over youtube. I almost listened to him and bought an RTAKII until I did my own checking. You'll be hard pressed to find (you wont) a more dependable knife blade for the money than Ka-Bar heat treated 1095CV.

I'd be getting 14 or the 16 to fill that big gap on the smaller side of your 2.

I'd go with the 15 or 16. The 7 isn't going to do much the other two won't and while I really like the 5, I think the hole in that collection would be more covered by one of the tweeners.

I definitely second Ethan's recommendation. 11 and 16 are great. You may also want to look at the 4, if you like chopping action. If I were in your position and had to choose, I'd go for the 5 over the 7 though. It's a slicy blade, and fills a different role than the 9, while I do think the 7 is made redundant by the 2 and 9.

One more vote for an 11 here! Or a 14 if you have bigger hands. I still use my 11 the most out of all the Beckers. A tweener should be on your list too!

Ordered my BK7 today with next day shipping. Yay! It never appealed to me before, but lately it's been looking good.

The BK-5 is the goddess of butcher knives, and also does well as a short machete.

The BK-7 fills the same niche as the USMC "KaBar" combat knife, but is significantly more rugged.

That's because it's thicker (I think it is anyhow), and is full tang (I KNOW IT IS!), and probably a bit wider too.

yeah, but with a bk7 you get all of that AND a comliment from Chuck Norris. :D
just ribbin'.
I prefer the 7 solely because of the blade shape. I like clip points better than trailing points.
