As promised, here's a black leather Rat Hole for my Howler. The little Rat Tongue under the strap keeps the blade away from the strap when drawing or inserting the blade. The compact little Howler might not need a keeper strap, but for field use it's not a bad idea. 9-10 oz veg-tanned leather, hand cut, drilled and saddle stitched. Homebrew vinegar and steel wool black dye. Pheeeew !!

Now that is sweet!

Can you do them in Traditional, (Brown with white stitching)?....and ofcourse for the larger knives as well?

More pics, more pics damn it!

Very nice. :D:D

And I agree with Gundy...More pics please. Can you do this style so it can be worn canted? I'd pay good money for one of those :D:D

Picture worth a thousand words? (in the case of my poor scans, maybe 500 words) Here's a comparison of the standard sheath and mine. Couldn't quite get the whole HR standard sheath on an 11 1/2" scanner. This pic is darker than the previous one, but does show the detail of the Rat Tongue better. Gundy -- yes, can make in brown leather and white thread, tho I prefer to use the tan, waxed synthetic sinew for strength. Eric, a canted style is no problem, probably better suited to the CT. The HR sheath hangs only 6 1/2" below the bottom of the belt, lets me sit in the Jeep easily without removing it.

Very nice.
I think I will need one for mine, when I pick it up.:D :D :D

Hi Fellow Rats -- thanks for all the compliments -- I've been making "working" leather sheaths for over three years, and these will be the first repeats I've made; all the others have been one-off customs. I'm really happy with this one -- it suits the Howling Rat perfectly, lies close to the body, high enough to ride comfortably in the Jeep, and at least as good looking as the Rat!! It's all 9-10 oz leather, might just live as long as a Rat. At Eric's suggestion I've drawn out the pattern for a canted version, tho I haven't put one together yet. So here's the deal-- anyone who wants some leather for their Howler drop me an email, tell me whether you want vertical or canted, left or right carry, black or brown. I'll probably reserve the right to use synthetic sinew rather than white thread, because I trust it to last, and it's MY initial "B" on the back of the sheath. Please don't ask for tooling, carving, painting, or personalized initials. Maybe next year (Harhar)
(Note: the orders I already have will be done and mailed this week.
Now maybe I'm getting way ahead of myself, but yes, I do plan on doing a similar sheath for the Camp Tramp -- because I have one of those too!

I need your Battle Rat !! Free shipping both ways on the first BR leather sheath order !! I've got a CT and a HR, but need a BR to make the model for all those BR Rat Sheaths in handcrafted genuine Leather ! If noone takes me up on this SPECTACULAR offer I may be forced to actually buy a BR. Help !! Gundy is waiting on his, but I'd hate to have him ship a BR from Down Under, when we can solve the problem right here in the godd ol' US of A !!
