I am about to renew my cell contract and with the package I have I can get almost any phone I like.
I am leaning towards the Blackberry 9700 Bold and I was wondering if anyone out there has experience with it and can offer a recommendation?

I am not very techie and ease of use, e-mail and good battery life are important.

By the way we do have use here of the full Blackberry message service and 3G.....

Thanks for your comments.......:)

I'm in the same boat. the techs at the office want me to get the 9700. I am waiting for the HTC to come out.

I just got my 9700 two weeks ago. This is (no joke) my fifth BlackBerry, having upgraded from a year-old 9700. It's everything you ever wanted a smart phone to be, and has features that the iPhone can only promise you as part of future upgrades.

The browser is much improved over previous BlackBerry browsers; I downloaded a megabyte-plus, image-intensive file today with no problems whatsoever.

The battery is a big improvement also. 12 hours with normal use isn't a problem at all. With very heavy, continuous use, you'll "only" get about eight hours out of it. Try that with your iPhone.

While nothing's perfect, and I do have a few minor complaints (primarily about the smaller-than-average keyboard), it's as close to "perfect" as I've run across so far.

Feel free to ask me any other questions you may have. (And yes, I wrote this on my Bold.)

Thanks for that Ken it was a very helpful review.

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion. This is exactly the kind of "real world" review I was looking for.:)

a few of my friends have the bold, and they all love it. i have a storm.

is this your first blackberry?

they have some great features, and some quirks.

-the blackberry messenger is great, provided you have friends/family with blackberries.
--you can also use google talk, aol messenger, etc.
-you can link your contact list with the messenger and facebook.
-setting up email is easy
-internet works well, either with the network or wifi
-they are tough, i drop mine all the time
-takes pretty decent pics and video
-decent apps and games

but...
-it stores temporary files like a computer, so you have to clear the memory by taking out the battery (hard re-boot) every couple days.
-they freeze ocassionally, fixed also by removing the battery.
-the iphone has much better apps and games

i love the blackberry, and dont see myself having anything else anytime soon.

Good point about re-booting; yeah, it can get kind of annoying sometimes.

Thanks also for bringing up the camera. The camera on the 9700 is greatly improved over previous models - 3.2 megapixels. It's actually almost a "real" camera.

This will be my first Blackberry.
After 15 years of Nokia's, which frankly I think are going backwards, I am looking forward to a change.
Thanks for your input. You, Samael, and numerous other positive reviews have convinced me to get it.......

I'll post pics when I have it.......:)
