hello all,
need some opinions on the strength of the blackout. like the knife but not sure how it stands up. not intending to abuse it, just normal edc use. cutting boxes, etc. doesn't seem as strong as my other kershaws [blur, jyd, cyclone etc]. any opinions would be appreciated. thanks and best regards to all.

Mike I don't know about the other Kershaw knives you mentioned but I do know about the Blackout. That model has been out for a long time now. When I carried mail in El Paso a buddy of mine at work used one hard for many years and never had any problems.A mailman cuts lots of bundles and heavy straps used on bulk mail everyday before he ever hits the street.

The Black Out May Feel Not So Strong, Because It's Not As Heavily Made And Is More Lightweight Compared To Those Other Models. But It's An Excellent Knife. Very Strong.

I owned one for a few years? Lost it working in the field. Its tough and the coating lasts better than some. The benefit over a lot if kershaws is that straight edge drop point with a hollow grind. It doesn't matter that the one I had was 440c it was the sharpest knife I had for a long time because it was so easy to sharpen. As an alternative id consider the skyline. Similar blade good steel much lighter and slimmer in the pocket.

hello forum folks,
thanks for your input on the blackout. will keep it and put it to good use. like the feel of it but after using the zt200, 0301, i guess i'm not used to the lightness. thanks again all and best regards.

Hey Chris, we stopped date stamping our knives in 2009, so yours came out sometime after that.

Just out of curiosity, why did Kershaw stop stamping dates on their knives?

I believe it was a production decision. It may not seem like a lot to shave off 30 seconds in the time it takes to laser the date on a knife, but multiply that times the many many many knives that move through the laser machines every day, and you can see how that time adds up real fast. Getting knives through just a little faster means they get out to you that much quicker and in larger quantities.

Kershaw and ZT should do that on some of their more expensive and higher end models such as the 0600 or 0888.
Since they are already very limited production, I don't see how adding 30 seconds to the production time of very rare knives is a bad thing. In my eyes, that makes the knife even cooler that the birthday was stamped onto the tang of the blade.

Just my two cents,

OK but since it says patent pending on the blade i assumed it was a older model. But there is no date stamp unless i'm looking in the wrong spot.I looked pretty good my Salvo has a date stamp on it so i assumed it would be in the same place pretty much.how do you post pictures on here?

This will tell you how to post pictures.
I use photo bucket to host my photos and it's very simple. Scroll through that page until you get to a post that says "how to use photo bucket to host pics" or something like that.
