Anyone know any tips for centering the blade on a Speed Bump?

Other than adjusting the pivot and sending it into KSI.
The simple construction of the handle leaves few options in what I can tell.

Thanks.

I had a similar problem with a Blur. Here is one of the first suggestions that I got.

Welcome to the forums!

A method that usually works is to tighten the pivot screw (when knife is closed) on the side that the blade is touching the scale. This should push the blade more to the center. Don't tighten too much or the blade may not open properly. If this does not work there are more steps you can take if you feel confident about disassembling the knife. You could also get additional information here:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=809
There are many there willing to help. You will also find Kershaw warranty contact there. If all else fails send it in to Kershaw, they will definitely make it right. Their customer service is excellent.

Good luck!

It is definitely a trial and error process to center the blade by lossening and tightening the pivot. Good Luck.

BTW, Kershaw warranty service is great! :D

Also you could try loosening/tightening frame screws or checking to make sure that the stop pin is in both holes in the handles.

The thumb studs act as the stop pin.
Screw tightening/loosening not working.

Appreciate you help. Any other ideas?

Tear that sucka apart. Seriously, you won't be able to get a feel for what the problem is until you rebuild it from bottom to top. You can try it without new parts, but, I would go ahead and contact CS about a new pivot, washers and torsion bar.

Completely disassemble then slowly start building it back up layer by layer.

The two sides of the knife may not be lining up. When you reassemble it, leave all the frame screws and pivot loose. Center the blade up, then gradually tighten all the screws and pivot. Keep checking the blade centering as you go. If it starts moving off center, back off a bit then try shifting the handles to overcorrect for the blade shift in the other direction. Then gradually tighten again.

By the way, you shouldn't be able to move the sides very much in relation to each other, so don't get frustrated. A tiny bit of shift seems to move the blade quite a bit.

That’s a lot of parts to ask for but I did. I’m confident in my ability to tear this sucker down to the last ity bity and build it back up. I have done it on many models. To my knowledge no model has more parts than the Blur. Wow there are tons.

I never considered the washers and that was a great idea.
This should be fun. I like taking stuff apart. I’ll leave the hammer in the tool box. :)

All your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time.

That's not really that many parts. If your problem isn't a simple alignment issue it is either the pivot or the washers, and you might as well change the torsion bar while you are in there.

Have fun:thumbup:

I KNOW this thread is old as hell but I just want to say thank you for all the advice on centering a blade, and thank you to the OP for asking this question. Because of this Thread I centered my favorite knife!!! Thank you all.

I always open the blade, push the liner over to take pressure off the blade, and the tighten, or loosen the pivot screw to kick the blade towards the center.
