We at Buck Knives are working with Mike to offer a Blade Forums project to help support this site. If there is enough interest in a Buck project, we will move forward. So far it is down to two selections.

A BG-42 blade on our large Lightning with anodizing exclusive to These forums.

Or

A 110 with BG-42 that has distinct colored scales

Both models will be in the sub $100 range

Please let me know your thoughts.

Jeff

I guess the best way to find out for sure, is to have some sort of voting on it.
How many are we looking at here, to make it count as "enough interest"? Also, could the price be finalized before the production run? The last one caught us a bit off-guard, you see..

At least, if we know how much we're looking at, people can then budget accordingly, then find out whether or not they can afford it.

I recalled a thread here which dealt with the fact that specials have been popping up non-stop, and much as we wanted to get each and everyone of them, we can only afford so much. Of course, if we REALLY wanted it badly, we'd find a way.. heheh.. A sub-$100 price for a BG-42 knife would be really interesting though.

We really appreciate makers like Buck, Spyderco, etc... who goes all out to support this site we all love.

So, let's wait for the others to show up, and see what they think of a new special up for grabs.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Dan

Well, I'm a big 110 fan so that's where my vote will be. I don't think there is anything wrong with special Blade Forums projects. We don't have to get every knife offerred butI would be pretty disappointed to miss out on a special Buck project since the 110 by tradition is my personal favorite.

Just my $0.02

I'd probably take either one, but I am inclined toward the 110.

Hey Spark, how about setting up a survey -- 110 vs Lightning? FWIW, once the model choice has been determined, a second survey to determine the number of folks actually willing to plunk down the money for one might make your job easier as well.

I'm not sure what we're going to do, but I'm unsatisfied with how things were handled last time, so we're not going to handle it the same way.

Once we have the particulars on the knives we'll release details on costs and availability, and then start taking orders. Other than that, we're going to get our ducks in a row first.

Great! That would be better, as it will also avoid some sort of "overrun" if people kept saying they want one, then ended up not getting any.. arghh.. worst nightmare if you ask me.

Jeff,

I too would normally be inclined towards the 110, but with the Custom Shop opening up again specializing in 110s, I figure I can get my BG42 and icing on the cake there too. Sooooo, my vote is for the anodized Lightning BG-42.

I have no clue what either knife looks like. Anyone have pictures or a point to where they can be found.

Thanks,

Here you go, Sing. On the left is the Buck 110, a classic and famous lockback hunter. If it isn't Buck's all time best selling knife, then it's certainly one of them. On the right is the Lightning, a modern high tech liner lock that, to me, operates as smooth as silk. Both good knives. Take care.

Whew! butchered that. Here's attempt #2. If this fails then I need some lessons on posting HTML to this forum. Sorry for the butchery.

I like both, but if I have to choose, I'll go with the "Lightning". I need another 110 like a hole in the head. Although if the 110 were to have nickle silver bolsters as well as BG-42, then I'd have to go for the 110. Oh Heck, I'll buy em both.

Thanks, Fred, Mike,

The 110. One of my first knives is an imitation of that! The blade couldn't hold an edge but I thought the lockback was so cool after having and only using SAK's.

I would vote for the lightning. The 110 is a rather heavy folding knife, and I don't like having that much weight in my pocket.

For those of you who don't want to hear me ramble, skip to the bottom, in bold.

As a hater of linerlocks, if it was done in the lightning, it would make my decisions easy ( a NO). If it was done in the 110, my choice would be harder. I personally would prefer that it be pushed back a while, similar to all the people in the "enough BF specials!!" thread, or whatever it was called.

Buck is probably my favorite all time knife company. Not sure why, as BM and Spyderco make knives just as fine. I think it has something to do with my childhood knives. I would love a Buck in a good steel. Unfortunately, their only ATS-34's have been the linerlocks. Not sure what I'm saying here. I guess it is:

(1) Prefer the 110.
(2) Prefer it to be later than sooner.

Fred & Mike.. Thanks for posting the Pics.
O_D...The time schedule for the project is entirely up to Spark and Mike.. As long as there is enough lead time for us we can do it whenever. I just want to get the prelims out of the way, so that when all are ready we can proceed. Still need to have proven interest before it'll go anywhere.

O_D,

We will be slowing the projects down greatly. With our new web hosting service, T-Shirts and other promotions we will be able to source revenues from other areas. We understand the pocketbook issue. Also we don't want to deter you guys from buying from the dealers who advertise here. We just need to make up the difference in what I ahve personally put into this BladeForums project. I beleive that by the end of July, we should be paid up, so to speak. Of course my original investment is history and BF will never need to pay me back.

Jeff, just to clarify... I love Buck knives, and I love the idea. And I would love to have a 110 in BG42. It's the pocketbook thing, like you said, Mike.

And, if Buck ever makes another Vanguard in BG42 (sometime down the road I hope), or one of the other 'premium' steels, I won't make the mistake of letting it pass by again.

O_D

I'll make my vote on the 110. I've been wanting an excuse to get one (not having the.. uh hum... years of collectning that some of you have)
