I'm about to sharpen my BM42 for the first time, and was curious as to the type of grind and the angle employed on the Weehawk-style blade. Also, is the Spyderco Sharpmaker as good as I've heard?

Blackjack_21, I can't help You as far as the angle of grind on Your BM42 as Mine hasn't got here yet,but I can tell You that I've been using a Sharpmaker for a couple of years now,and it will put a nice edge on just about any knife You might have.tom.

I've gotten very good results with the 20 degree setting on my Lansky and my DMT diamond hones. Can't help you on the Sharpmaker personally, but those of my friends that have it love it.

Okay, this is the part where Gollnick drops in and tells me the exact angle, down to the milliradian, and a detailed, 3-page analysis of the Spyderco Sharpmaker. :D:D:D Just kidding, Chuck. I realize you have more questions than time to answer them. :D

Maybe you should try straping(sp?).I tried it and it got my bm42a blade razor sharp.

I have not sharpened one yet, but it looks like a 20 degree angle, 40 on the sharpmaker. Mark the edge bevel with a black felt pen and check the grind marks after a few strokes. This will let you know if you have the correct angle, and if any adjustment is needed.
