For anyone who knows the california knife laws, I was just wondering what the legal limit for a folder was. I thought the legal limit was 3" but was unsure if this was real. I asked a police officer and he told me that there is no limit for a folder type knife. I also asked my friend who is a pre law student, and he too said that there is no set, and stated legal blade length limit. Can anyone tell me what the law really is and to clarify any discepencies for me, because a lot of people have told me that the legal limit was 3". Thanks.

Yep, no legal length limit.

However, in Los Angeles County, you can't openly carry a folding knife with a blade over 3", I believe. Anybody know the reason behind this (aside from, "Because it's California...")?

And of course, any fixed blade knife regardless of blade length, must be openly carried.

What is meant by that, what about if you have a fixed blade and a sausage in your backpack and you are going to a picnic? Are you supposed to wear it on your belt Rambo style?
