Hi guys,

A little while ago I asked for everyone's help in choosing my first knie. Since then, I have purchase the Benchmade 806D2 and I am thoroughly enjoying it.

Unfortunately, the first half of the blade has dulled and I need to have it sharpened.

Anyone know where I can take it so they can sharpen it for me (professionally) - I don't want the knife screwed up. And how much is it on average to have the knife sharpened (it's half-serrated). I live in the Los Angeles area in California (US).

THANKS!

Benchmade has their "LifeSharp" service. For five dollars they will completely freshen you knife (clean, lube, sharpen, adjust). I think it is a good deal for people who don't want to do their own maintenance. I used the service once for a brand-new knife that had a small ding in the blade and turn-around time was about two weeks.

Even if you use a shop in your area you will likely be with out your knife for a time. Now you may be wondering what you will use for the time that your knife is in the shop... you will need a second knife! :D Anything from the Benchmade catalog will do unless you want to try something new. This is how we all started collecting :D

I have noticed as I get more knives, each one keeps it edge longer and longer... hmmm.

Whew... I got through this entire reply with out mentioning the Sharpmaker M204! Doh!

You could try the yellow pages under "knife sharpening" or a good cutlery shop. In the long run you would be better served by sharpening it yourself. Buy a Spyderco Sharpmaker 204 sharpener and you will have great success even if you have no idea how to sharpen a knife.

You might want to check your yellow pages for knife stores and sharpening services. My local knife store offers a knife sharpening service, and they use a sharpmaker 204, so you might want to consider just buying a sharpmaker. don't practice on your benchmade-- get a cheap knife to get the hang of sharpening first.
