Blade Show West is still scheduled for September 21-23rd in Irvine, CA. We belive that if we cancel the show, we will be allowing the terrorists to win. Our day to day activities must go on.

Many of you have been calling and e-mailing to request information. Admittedly, the airline situation had us on the edge of our seats. We understand that all air travel will be resumed, so we shouldn't have a problem with travel.

If you will be exhibiting or attending the show, and traveling by air, contact your airline and local FAA chapter regarding the knife regulations. It is our understanding that new FAA regulations prohibit the carry of knives or any such article on your person or in your carry-on luggage regardless of blade length or type. They further request that no one transport knives or like items in their check-in luggage as well. When specifically asked, "are there any regulations prohibiting the transportation of knives in checked-in luggage?" the answer was NO.

We again advise everybody to contact their airline/FAA chapter to verify the new regulations.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the show.

I agree Missy. If we let these events totally change our lives, then the terrorists win. We can not allow that to happen.

I just checked checked with United airlines and was told that I cold not take any knife of any kind in any way on any United airlines flight. So how do WE get knives to the show?

Hi Bondo -

I would suggest calling the FAA at 202-267-8058 and ask for the security administration. Then, ask the VERY SPECIFIC question: "Is there any regulation against having CUTLERY in the bags that are CHECKED onto the plane?" Make sure you get their name, title, etc. and note it.

The regulations may be interpreted differently than intended by the gal that takes the tickets at the counter.

I am flying United, and will arrive WAY EARLY for my departure - I expect close security (actually, I DEMAND it). My carry on will be a good book and my tickets (and pictures of my kids of course!) - I won't be carrying so much as a briefcase on this flight even if I am allowed to, and I would suggest you all do the same.

Keep us informed Bondo.

I am planning on driving out to Blade West. If a significant number of knifemakers will not be there for whatever reason, I would appreciate it if you let me know ahead of time so I don't waste my vacation this year (I could always go to another knife show).

Like you I don't want to let the (*&#$ win but, the current fears may prevent knifemakers and dealer from getting their stuff to the show.

Could the show be post-poned to give everyone a chance to regroup and ship their knives by ground?

Thanks!

Hi Sid

We won't be postponing the show. Our exhibitors are making arrangements to get their knives to the show - some may be shipping them, and others will be checking them at the gate.

The over-all feed-back that we have gotten from those exhibiting has been business as usual - full speed ahead. Yes, many will have a more difficult time. It's nothing compared to what some are going through right now.

One of my favorite people in the knife industry noted that she will be bording a plane in Florida with 3 cases of knives to check and a foreign husband. She'll be there.

Make the drive Sid. These exhibitors are a great group of people and they will be happy to see you. Heck - I'll be happy to see you. It means that you didn't let them win.

Missy :)

None of us should be looking for reasons not to go. We should instead be striving to find ways around any obsticle set in our path. We are proud of what we do, and who we are & we will persevere. My staff is flying from Wisconsin. If there is evidence that we will not be able to fly out Thursday, we will start driving Tuesday.

at the link in the above post it is written: "Knives will only be allowed on the airplane in CHECKED BAGGAGE!"

I Called the the # that Missy posted for the FAA and was told that as far as they(FAA) were concerned knives in checked bags would be ok but that the airlines had the final say. Finally got through to some one at United and was told that no KNIVES OF ANY KIND would be allowed on any United flight.>>> And it did not matter Weather or not they were in checked bags or not. After I asked enough questions I convinced the guy AUCKMED! To Have his supervisor call me so we could discuss this. I'll post again as soon as I find out anything more. Keep you fingers crossed. Try to get through to United and ask questions. Maybee I'll be driving to Blade West.

:) Just got off the phone. There really is intelligent life out there. The person that I talked to said that," according to the policy hand book Knives in a locked case that is checked baggage will be Ok on united airlines flights". She also said that I should be prepared to open said case and prove contents are as claimed but there should be no problems other than that. THANK YOU UNITED.:D :D I'm sorry if I caused any undue stress on any one But I thought it important for everyone to be informed and therefore prepared.

Well ,since the show is still on I made a call and it looks like I will have a table at the blade west show.I will be driving those 1400 miles one way so I hope to see some of those people I have been selling knives to for the last couple of years.Hope you all can make it.I dont know what to say about the airport deals.I guess it could be worse.
Thanks

I fly across the country in under two weeks. I was planning on placing my carry knives in my checked luggage, next to my guns. I'm taking only plain edged knives, under four inche blades to avoid any problems. :D

Wayne, it is great to see that you visit the forums once in a while. Come on by more often, you would be very welcome.

Tom, unfortunatly I'm not headed for the Blade Show, I have other obligations.

As for the guns . . . :D I never leave home without my "Golf Clubs". (My 12 Wood and my .223 Iron)

Plus I have to have my "Walkin' around" companions, a Glock G19C and a Keltec P32.
