BladeForums Kershaw Blur?

I know we have the Skyline for 2012.. and I'm excited to get mine in eventually.

I was a part of the HTM DDR Gunhammer design, and have mine preordered ready to go. For those not familiar, we picked out handle color, and steel. The pivot type and blade shape are your own choices..

I thought it would be cool to do something like this on a Kershaw Blur. 100-250 run, serial numbered? I would love to have a S90v blur, with a choice of blade options, and we pick a handle color/cf inlays, etc..

What do you all think?

Taking this further, I think the next one would be a Leek after this... Everyone loves a Kershaw Leek anyways ;)

Who would foot the bill for start up? As with the Skyline, Thomas mentioned that the minimum number of pieces would be at least 400-600 or something.

I know I would definitely be in for one or two. Imagine if the handle scales could be made out of Titanium.. that would be pretty cool.

That actually sounds awesome. I bet we would have to wait a bit for it though even if you got everyone on board. What was the minimum for the skyline? Rev brings up a good point also though.

Well with the GH, we all put a $180 deposit in which is half the cost of the knife to pay for supplies and get things started. After the knife is done, the remainder is collected and it's shipped out.

Involve Spark in any of these type of discussions.
^ I think this is an important lesson learned from last time. If we want it to be an "Official" Bladeforums knife then we need his input.

Additionally if this was going to be successful I think we will need to pick one set of stuff and stay with that. The amount of combinations you would open up by letting people pick out handle colors, inlays, blades, etc would be too unwieldy.

I'd be willing to second the Ti handles :)

Of course. What we Did was had several options and then we all poll in on them.. The winner of that category/option will be the final item for that knife. It was all user input an polls made the final decision.

And also, I know Spark will need to be involved. I was just throwing the idea out there to see what kind of interest there is. Seems like there is a good amount thus far. :)

I'm sure Spark is going to want to wait until the Skyline one is done to see how it goes.

As far as the GH knife, that is in no way shape or form related to Bladeforums, it is just a semi-custom group buy.

Yes I know. But I think it's a great concept that makes the knife very personable.

Yeah, I know. I just want to make it 100% clear.

And I think there is a difference when dealing with a sub 40 count versus the 500 minimum Thomas said you need for a custom order.

Very true. I hope something can be worked out. I would especially love a custom blur

If you guys are really going to continue this talk, you really need to contact Spark, we have been through this before and most of us have learned from that experience. Blade forums is his and he needs to be involved in these discussions. This is a friendly suggestion only, I have no authority to tell anyone what to do.

Again, this was just to see if there was any interest. Not to start anything. I know there has to be others involved for anything to be final. Please anyone, do not take this thread the wrong way.

This is a cool idea, but we are talking about a knife that would cost on the short end for even a small upgrade or two of at least $130 right? Something like S90V would drive the price in the $200 range I am sure. Add Ti scales and we would be talking probably $240? A minimum order of 400 puts that at $96,000. Yikes. I say, pick a handle color, a blade coating/stone wash and be done with it.

Well when you put it that way!

We had a minimum order amount of 500 pieces for a Skyline with S30V. A Blur with S90V would still be 500 pieces, and we don't even have all 500 pieces of the skyline presold yet either.

As much as I'd love to do another custom run of things like this, we'd need a heads up from Thomas as to what things would cost. Remember, as the price goes over $100 (or in this case, $200), the number of people who are going to buy drops dramatically.

I agree with price point being a major factor. I say blue or bright orange Aluminum handles with black S30V or ZDP steel- that should be well enough in the $100 range and look badass too
