Blood patina? (I'm not sure)

I am hesitant to post this here, cause its not RAT. but i did bring it up in this forum i think. So thats why.

What do you think could that be a patina, i tried cleaning it off with 95% ethanol, and it didn't even look smudged in the least bit.

Could be. Try some Barkeepers Friend instead of alcohol.

Use some flitz and then just let it be unless it's red rust and pitting. Carbon tool steel is supposed to gain character imho....if it's an antique, you will definitely ruin the resale value by polishing it up. The Randall forum is probably the place to ask.

it doesn't look like rust at all. more like a stain (i know that sounds weird we are talking about steel)

I actually didn't think about taking it off, it seems pretty well stuck, and i don't mind the pattern. I was actually considering trying for some more character.

Blood can cause a patina pattern - I know that from first hand experience!
