Blur changes or model wrong?

Hey I have a question tied it with a sad story.
About 2004 I purchased a blur, it was grey in body, had black sandpaper like inserts and a black coated blade with "made in usa" and the date oct 03 on the tang near the handle when it was opened. I carried that knife over hill and dale, for years it was with me, my knife is actually one of the reasons i HAD to check my luggage. And I have clothes that those sandpaper grips shredded the pocket lining :)

Well fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, I am coming home from a company trip and someone working for the airport/TSA decided they liked it more than I needed iT. It along with my wallet was stolen from inside my checked baggage. Now TSA, airline all dont give 2 cares at all. So after I stopped cussing, I went and purchased a new blur, this time I got the OD green frame with the black blade. Well it arrived today, there is no date stamp and no "made in usa" on the blade. Also the grip is rubbery not sandpapery (have love those tech terms).

So now you know my story, now where is the question. Did I order the wrong model? Do they no longer make the one I had before? If they do make it, what should I be looking for?

long story short It's the way they are made now... I have grey blur and like it's inserts more then the new ones..stinks yours was stolen..the grey is a desirable blur and its sad that its gone.

Sorry about your experience. Truly.

Because you know the year you are looking for, I'm sure with enough effort you could track one down (used). Not a great solution, but it's all I can think of. On the plus side, you have seriously upgraded your steel :)

Sorry about your loss brother. I forget what year they quit with the skate tape inserts ( sand paper) and started the tractec's (rubbery). My buddy had an old tanto with the skate tapes and sent it in for sharpening and they sent his back with the tractecs installed. It has been maybe 4 or so yrs. ago, since I seen a skate tape for sale. Upside is you now have better steel!

Times have changed since 9 years ago.

Fortunately the blur is still MADE IN THE USA, and secondly you've upgraded the most important part... the blade steel. I think I read that they got rid of the "date stamps" because people would complain to dealers about having old stock when they got a knife made 6 months to a year old. Although having the date stamped on the blade is pretty darn cool, I think its more of a headache for dealers trying to sell them.

The biggest change as it seems for you is that you don't have the skate tape anymore... On the bright side the rubber grip is still pretty aggresive and might be a less harsh on pocket wear.

I think its pretty cool that you carried that blade for more than half a decade. I would have loved to see its battle scars.

My advice is to accept the change and just try the knife out! All in all you have a better & newer knife with better blade steel and brand new paint. I'm sure you will be as happy as you were with your old blur!

Losing a friend like that is a sad thing, last knife I lost I was pissed for days and it was my owned damned fault. Sorry for your loss, might want to keep your eye on ebay for a while. But like the others said, you got an upgrade, the green is a real nice looken knife.

If you looked around you could even get one with s30v or even with a little looking, find one with cpm154. Not to mention a bunch of handle color options
