I don't know if this is okay to post here, and I don't take as good of pics as Ari, that's for sure, but I just got this one today and it's the coolest production knife I've ever seen.

How did you get one of the THREE HOLE prototypes?

Can those be sold?

You are one LUCKY dog!!!

I was informed that there are more out there, not so much lucky dog as "bird dog", always hunting. fuzzy

fuzzy,
Ah, I stumbled across your post over at USN. Great find! I like the three hole design sooo much better than the four hole design, but alas. Nice pics also!!!

I have both the three hole and the four hole (first prod run), they are both very nice knives, small color variation, can't find a thing wrong with them in every aspect, fit finish, and function, but the three hole is my favorite, I guess because it was the original design. Talk about GODZILLABENZA !

Here's the two together for comparison, should have done this originally, sorry.

fuzzyedge,

Great score!

So, the prodos are indeed a funny off green/blue compared to a true beadblasted ti. Interesting.

Also... what number is your first run prodo? It looks like 0893/1000, but I can't quite make it out.

Thanks,

-jon

Both are cool. I like the three-holed version better !

I wonder why they elected to put the 4th hole where they did ?

Yes jon ,the proto is kind of a gray compared to the green of the First prod run (0893/1000). Was meant to be , 0893 is the month and year of my electroction accident, and also happens to be the last 4 digits of my cell phone #. (weirdness). If anybody want a little better look at them , I can email some better quality pics, I kind of lost some resolution sizing these to post. The 3 to 4 hole change was due to some conflict as to who owns the patent on a "hole" (funny huh), don't know the details.

Fuzzyedge,

Thanks for the info. Looks like they may be at the end of their first prodo run... hopefully that means there will be more hitting the market soon. :)

I prefer the actual grey to the green, but I wouldn't complain about green.

Interesting on that number. Hope you're better from your accident, 11 yrs later. Electrocution is no laughing matter, indeed.

IIRC, the 3 to 4 hole shift was to circumvent a Ken Onion trademark (not patent). They still have the issue with Spyderco, though...

Ahhhhhhhh

I knew about the "Spyderco" situation. . .wasn't aware that there were issuses with hole placement & Ken Onion. Interesting.

I don't want to raise a ruckus or give out false info. I think there are some posts around discussing this. My impression was that Ken and Neil weren't the ones with the issue... it may be corporate hijinks or something?

It has something to do with three descending holes, though.

That would be patent rather than trademark, Just thought I'd clarify. I think it's a great knife!

Btw thanks for posting the photos, you made me buy a First Production model on ebay. Great production knife. The only thing I could ask for is a better polish on the blade, and a tougher finish of some sort on the handle (mine is already scratched). But it's a great design, super-strong big folder. And it flips open easily :)
