Which one should I get, if I get one? Pros & cons of each? Are there pros & cons of one vs. the other?

Just wondering what people's opinions might be.

Thanks.

I just got a BM720 and it is a great knife, though quite the pocket filler. The handle and blade are wide and beefy and the knife has a pleasing heft to it. The difference with the BM721 will be the weight and perhaps cold-weather comfort. The BM720 weighs 4.3oz and the BM721 with the G-10 scales weighs 3.8oz. I don't know what that 0.5 ounce translates to in the real world. Maybe a stack of quarters? Anyway, if you are going to carry a beefy knife I doubt that a few ounces will make a difference. So it comes down to the preference between G-10 and aluminum for the handle.

BTW, this is my first Benchmade where the clip is on the pivot-end by default. Quite a learning curve there, but I'm a little reluctant to change it because I figure the guy who designed the knife spec'd it there and he knows a lot more about knives than me.

Hey Rev. Pete, do the aluminum scales slant down from about a quarter inch or so in from the edge of the handle? Or are they only beveled on the very corner on each side?

I too wonder just how much difference the 0.5 oz. is going to make.

Thanks.

I have had my BM 720 for over a year now and I am still very pleased with it. The aluminum scales are quite comfortable, but I am sure G-10 is preferable in cold weather.
The scales are slightly angled to avoid sharp edges and it's probably the most comfortable folder I have had to use and carry.
It is a bit heavy, but I don't really notice it anymore.
I think I'd go for the 720 if I had to do it over again, although the aluminum scales obviously are more prone to dings and scratches than G-10.

The best

i was in the same quandry a week ago. just got my 710, i was deciding between g-10 and aluminum. i worried over nothing, go g-10! will hold up/grip better in the long run.

my only worry was the wear on my pocket. it's not rough at all. i've only had it a week but it's alot smoother, more of a texture, than i heard. from what i heard i thought g-10 was like 100grit sand paper!

handle both to see what you like. if you make a mistake it'll sell here fast from what i'm told.

good luck.

Hey Rev. Pete, do the aluminum scales slant down from about a quarter inch or so in from the edge of the handle? Or are they only beveled on the very corner on each side?

They slant down a quarter inch from the edge. The raised area in the middle of the scale is about 5/8" wide. On the front side it is embossed with the Benchmade logo. The non-clip side is blank. However the angle of the slant is very, very slight, nothing like the sharp angle of the BM710.

As they say, a picture:

Thanks Rev. Pete. Nice picture! Hope you don't mind I downloaded it to my computer. ;)

I don't suppose you would have one from the spine looking down, would you? And is yours ATS-34 or 154CM?

Thanks again.

OBTW, I ordered the 720. I have a 722, and a 940. Comparing the texture of the two, I decided I preferred the aluminum, especially if it does slant down even the slightest from 0.25 in. in. More sculpting, so to speak. But the bottom line was I just decided I liked the aluminum better than the G10, for now. I've got a boatload of G10 knives, it seems.

I have a 722 and just got a 720 - think you will be very happy with it. I like the heft of the aluminium handle. It is a good solid knife with great clean elegant lines!

Just a pic of my own BM720.
