Okay, I made another video showing me opening and closing my BM710HSSR, my BM Ares, and the BM806D2. I had to try and keep everything in the frame of the camera, so it might look a bit akward. :) This file is around 1.7MB, but it's longer than the other one I posted. I found out how to take the AVI from my digital camera and convert it to a WMV which cuts down on the quality, but you should still get the idea.

If the video looks dark, and you have a current version of Windows Media Player, you can up the brightness with the video settings.

Nice video Wade! You sure are fast with those! I noticed that you pull back on the axis and then flick... what is it like flicking without pulling back on the axis first? I haven't played with an axis lock for a few years so I forget!

Thanks. More videos please!

They can be flicked open either way. I find if I pull back the lock it takes less effort to open it, so I have more control over the knife (not flicking any harder than I have to).

And is that a Mini-AFCK, or do you have enormous hands?

In my own experience, I can "Brownie Pop" my 806D2 without touching the Axis-lock -- but the Axis-lock flip (a la Wade) seems almost faster and surer.

That's the 806D2, full size. :) I guess you could say I have big hands. Kinda scrawny hands, but big. Lanky? :)

Here's just a shot of me holding the 806D2. Do my hands still look that big? Maybe it was just the video. :)

Ooh, ooh, thats the effect I was hoping for with the 806. I've recently taken a liking to large folders, and that's just the appearance I hoped for.

OK, in the still it looks normal; in the vid, you must be choking down on the AFCK -- simulating the tail-end grip that you'd end up with after drawing it. One thing I really like about the 806 is the length of the grip: you can use it as a striking tool until you get the blade out.

Just goes to show you the power of video. (I knew I could have made it in porn....)

ah yes, a file my dumb comp can read.. nice footage. benchmade should give you royalties! i always liked the aesthetics of the 806 as well.

Wade, you're very good at that. I think this is soon becoming a skill/art like the Balisongs. You open the axislocks much faster than my automatics can open. That includes both Benchmades and Microtechs.

I wonder if Benchmade would like to add your video to their web site. They have few on there now, showing the opening and closing of some of their knives.

The only problem I could see Benchmade having is that Wade is whipping three blades around within reach of the baby's Pack & Play!

Not that I'm criticizing -- I'm just lucky that my own 6-month old can't get to the blades I leave lying all over the house.

Hehe. He wasn't in there at the time. :) I wouldn't do that any where near my kid. I need to get something to lock my blades up in. Maybe a tool chest of some kind.

Wade,

Do you also flip balis by any chance? :)

All -- (Crayola and arcanum, especially)

Like arcanum (and many others) cited, Crayola, once yo9u've broken-in the bigger BM AXIS folders, you can typically quite easily either wrist-whip/snap or "Brownie Pop" those pieces open, even without touching the lock-release.

Actually, I differ a bit from arcanum's view in that I think a good whip or proper Pop should be more positive/sure of lock engagement without touching the lock-release as doing so (touching the release) would mean an increased *_potential_* of operator error.

The blade deployment speed of Wade's method, however is undeniable -- and I think that overall stroke-to-point speed would be very close to a proper Pop, too, and easily rival and likely shame any auto on the market, even MT's and Dalton's.

Closing speed, no doubt about it -- I think that only the DA OTF autos can beat Wade, LOL.

Nicely done with the video.
Nice speed too :)
Are these out of the box? any special lube?
Or just broken in?
Tom

I laugh when I get to the part where he has both of the BM's out and is flipping one then the other. It just seems like he's bored and he's amusing himself. :D

The 710 and Ares (730 I think) both have Militec-1 on them. Although I could do this without any special lube. I got the 806D2 for Christmas so it's pretty new and I haven't played with it all that much. I think I did put a drop or two of militec-1 on it though. It helps to tune them up so they swing as freely as possible, but you want to be sure they still lock up solid with no blade play.

I agree with the statements that popping them or whipping them open without touching the lock is a better way to go. This will ensure a solid lock up. You can screw up using the lock the way I do. I mainly do this because I can open the blade with less effort. So if I'm opening it around sheeple I'm not making some wild jerk or what not. Even the brownie pop requires you to tense up and what not and that could freak people. Hehe. I can pull back on the lock and let the blade fall open with gravity if I want. I also noticed my BM806D2 is much quieter than the other 2 when it locks. More steathly. :)

Yes I do, but I don't do anything fancy like throw them in the air and what not. I usually just use the normal opening methord, not sure if there is a name for it (flip one handle out, spin, flip the handle back to bring the knife to an open and locked position). I own about 20 balis, most are junk. I have 2 older benchmade models. Got my first balis around 14-15 years ago.
