Hey Guys,

I'll be visiting Detroit, MI for a couple days (July2/3). I normally carry a BM720 clipped to my front right pocket. Do you think I'd be safe if somehow I got stopped by an LEO.

Schedule;
1) Cross the border. Go to the airport to drop off a guy. I don't even plan on setting a foot inside any of the buildings.

2) Denny's for a Grand Slam.

3) Shopping at Great Lakes Crossing.

4) Dinner out.

5) Night at the Marriott.

6) More shopping. Then go home.

From the stuff I've read here, the laws clear as mud and leave alot of room for (mis)interpretation.

Any suggestions on a less sheeple freaking blade? Any good stores to visit between Detroit and Marine City?

Thanks for your replies!

Dale.

I'm not sure specifically but I live in the suburbs of Detroit and keep a Spyderco Native III, Dodo and some other knives with me. Detroit can (sometimes) have it's own rules since they work really hard to keep it safe and sometimes get a bit to excited to do so.
I've never been stopped specifically for carrying a knife however so I think you'll be ok if you don't give anyone a reason to hassle you. :)

Also if you're going to be in downtown Detroit I'd reccomend Lafayette Coney Island for the best Coneys in the area. They are at the corner of Lafayette and Michigan Ave right next to a lesser coney place that is actually on the corner. And Dearborn (just west of detroit) has a huge arabic population and excellent food (lotsa lamb and garlic). I'd reccomend LaPita on Michigan Avenue and Military.

I can't think of anywhere else fun off the top of my head. If I do I'll post again.

Carrying firearm or dangerous weapon with unlawful intent—Any person who, with intent to use the same unlawfully against the person of another, goes armed with a pistol or other firearm or dagger, dirk, razor, stiletto, or knife having a blade over 3 inches in length, or any other dangerous or deadly weapon or instrument, shall be guilty of a felony, punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than 5 years or by a fine of not more than 2,500 dollars.

A person shall not carry a dagger, dirk, stiletto, a double-edged nonfolding stabbing instrument of any length, or any other dangerous weapon, except a hunting knife adapted and carried as such, concealed on or about his or her person, or whether concealed or otherwise in any vehicle operated or occupied by the person, except in his or her dwelling house, place of business or on other land possessed by the person.

man these laws are dumb, i could use a pen as "any other dangerous weapon" we should outlaw pens!

i believe as long as your knife isnt double edged and is for utility not SD when asked, you should be fine.

hopfully a mi LEO will give some info before your visit

Gibraltar has a couple knife dealers scattered around even when there isn't a knife show that have decent deals. I saw a swisstool for $35 ish...

I usually buy my knives and such online since it's always cheaper. ALthough Gander Mountain does have respectable knife and flashlight prices.

But strictly as an army surplus store Harry's is the best one I've seen and it's huge
