I suspect the demand will be for a tanto and a bowie clip. Nice. But if it has to be a tanto I would prefer the Elishewitz style siimilar to the blade on a Halo III as opposed to the previous style mdl 44.

But, my real preference would be a japanese style tanto.

from correspondence with people who emailed in suggestions.. the concensus was ti handles and a weehawk tanto. I am looking very very forward to a bowie

With the lighter handles, I'm not really behind the tanto idea. But hey, I voted for a kris blade

My holy grail of balisongs is the 5 inch custom with the kris blade.

But I will buy whatever they come out with. I'm pathetic that way.

Sniperboy,
Did Benchmade reveal the a weehawk tanto was the most popular suggestion? Coincidently, that's what I voted for.

What about a Spike blade?? Like on the BM Auto Spike.

The shape would make for an awesome looking Bali. And the blade would be lighter, and therefore go better with the Titanium handles.

Of course, it wouldn't make for a great utility Bali, but if you wanted something that looked TOTALY different......... this would be the way to go.

I gotta get one of these made.

Nope, BM didn't give me any indiders info.. it was just that a lot of pople wrote to me telling me they voted for weehawk tantoes and ti handles..

and as for what jap tantoes look like.. american tantoes are curved oin the top and not boxy like the BM44

Would anybody like a BM 42 with the BM710 blade?
I would.

Rick, that Spike looks like a real one from Phil B.? is it? Looks nice and I'd second the motion of using that blade for a butterfly!
The Tanto might just throw off the balance, I had an older custom Tanto and it worked funny.

Ive really like the pattern of the spike blade on the Cudman Linder german bali but havent gotten around to getting one, people tell me they're a POS. It sure would be nice to see a quality spike....

To all, sorry for entering this thread late - simply missed it - What I'm curious about is what the concensus was, or is, on the Imada High Hollow as an alternative blade. Personally, I also did cast a vote for the WeeHawk Tanto, but I feel that the IHH is a super profile to be considered.

Could someone please explain to me the fascination with kris blades. Besides looking funny they don't seem to have merit that I can come up with. The blade seems to be awkward and seems most likely to get stuck between the ribs or an attacker.

Hello Bandit. Yeah, to me the Kris profile is pretty wild blade style, but, and I'm sure you've heard the expression - "whatever floats your boat", i.e., we're all captivated by different things. I do not think that people who like this blade profile are interested so much in how it will perform for them as a carry blade in a defensive situation as they are in simply just how it looks - the lines - what went into the methods of the creation of such a style. Forumites, correct me if I'm off, but the Kris is a collector's profile, yes ?

Gary, yes Phil Boguszewski made that for me back in 1990.
Only 1 of 2 Left Handed.
IMHO, the blade is nicer than the BM.
It would make a great balisong.

Been offline for a couple of days.

One example of a japanese style tanto (to me) is the blade style on the CRK/Al Mar limited edition 'collaboration' knife.

The idea of a spike never crossed my mind. Good idea. And a good example of thinking outside the box.

Personally for me, I just happen to think that the kris blade looks cool! With the balisong being the unique knife that it is, the kris blade makes it even more unique. From my understanding about the shape of the blade, is exactly what you pointed out, that with the double edge and multiple curves is it was designed to do more damage when used to stab the intended victim, whether it was human or animal. That blade style is usually seen more on fixed blades or swords. That is also what makes it useful for the balisong, since a balisong when locked in the open position can be just as strong as many fixed blade knives.
