OOPS. PLEASE MOVE TO GENERAL KNIFE DISCUSSION

I am wanting a folder with a fine edge + serrations with a piercing point to keep in my truck for emergencies. The blade should lock open SECURELY and hold a SHARP EDGE but doesn't have to be scary sharp. Trying to decide between:

BOKER Button Lock Ser AK Tactical Folder with 3.25 inch AUS-8 Stainless Steel blade, partially serrated. Button lock.
OR
SOG Pentagon Elite II with a 5 inch VG-10 steel blade, partiallly serrated. Arc lock.

Both knives are supposed to open with a flick of the wrist. Do they???

I am not aquainted with either BOKER or SOG or these types of locking mechanisms. Either blade length is acceptable for my purpose. I know there are many, many other knives to consider, but what about these two KNIVES and MAKERS??? Decisions. Decisions. Please help me out.

The SOG line is going to be the better maker out of thsoe two. There is either the Pentagon Elite I or the Pentagon Elite II. The I has a 4" blade which seems closer to the Boker blade length since that was your other choice. The II as you know has a 5" blade. The Pentagon line is going to have the arc-lock which can withstand a lot of damage, 1000 pounds of pressure. I love my Pentagon Elite I and it's never let me down, and that was before the VG-10 upgrade.

I concur that the SOG is the better choice. I know that you were inquiring about a folder, but have you thought of a fixed blade? That would eliminate the need for a fast opener with a solid lockup.

Yes. I thought I was settled on the requirements until I saw the SOG Pentagon S-14 and the SOG Mini Pentagon. Both are tempting and probably more practical. I still like the idea of being able to tote a folder in my pocket. Thanks.

You mentioned you wanted one with a piercing point. What is it going to be used for? If you are going to pierce hard targets I'd go with a fixed blade instead. But if you want to stay with a folder, I'd go for the Spec Elite, it should have a stronger tip (although the Pentagon Elite's spear point and false edge will make it easier to pierce softer targets).

I carry a Pentagon Elite II every single day and I have NEVER been let down or disappointed. It is a pretty large folder so if you're looking for a compact knife I would not choose it. But if you're looking for a heavy duty knife with a strong tip for piercing, the Pentagon Elite II is your man. It's pretty good for chopping also due to it's size and length. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Ditto on the SOG's . I also have the PE and several more. The old SOG air weight is a favorite.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

I would say SOG also, but the Spec Elite II instead of the Pentagon Elite II, due to the clip point on the SEII being more useful tnan the PEII.
