Please help a newb out. I see "bone stag" scales, mainly on slipjoints. Is this a type of bone made to look like stag or is it from real horn?

"Bone stag" is bone that has been jigged and burnt to resemble stag horn. It is typically cow shin bone.

Thanks a lot. Follow up question.......what's second cut stag?

I believe second-cut stag is cut from the inner, left-over areas of the antler with little to no outer "bark " showing.

It's still genuine stag, but a less desirable piece. It's also sometimes jigged and/or dyed to resemble an outer portion--because of this, it can sometimes be hard to tell second-cut stag from stag-bone.
