I was watching t.v the other day, while also manipulating my bali, and I saw a commercials for a new movie, that I thought, was pretty bad ass. The name of the movie was "Bones" and it stars Snoop Dogg. All though I'm not a big rap fan, I am a big fan of the balisong. From what I saw he uses it through-out the whole movie as his main weapon. I hope he does some good manipulations with it and it ain't just another crappy old movie. It is supposed to be in theaters this month. I didn't look to hard, but it looks like he might be using a BM 42 model. For any one who wants to see the trailer for it, and has some spare time for it to download, go to www.bonesmovie.com.

Yo, word. It's in only one clip you can really see it. The clip is a partial in the reverse grip really slow. Sorry Snopp, no props for someone who is suposed to hard. Anyhow, it looked like a new BM bowie, I was looking at the blade profile. At the end it's thrown, rotating perfectly of course into the title. But it looks a little wide for a new BM. Could be a different bali or I could be wrong. What do you guys think, besides the fact that the knife is portayed in a very negative light?

No, I'm not. While this more of the villian with the balisong and even identifies the balisong as a "switchblade", it is going to be seen by a lot of people and it is going to expose those people to the balisong. It's gonna create a lot of interest.

I, myself, couldn't say much about the knife from the tiny little preview window. We'll see.

Here are a couple vidcaps from the preview:

BONESKNIFE.jpg

I'm thinking it's a Benchmade model 45 for a few reasons:

1.) You can't really tell from the pictures, but if you watch the video closely it looks like the handles are smooth at the pivot points (no torx screws).

2.) The swedge of the blade is only on the last third of the knife, whereas on the 43 the swedge starts at about the middle and on the 42 it is even farther back.

3.) The blade stamp is visible on the knife, and on the Benchmade 45 the words Benchmade U.S.A. are engraved into the blade while in the newer models the writing isn't cut into the metal. It seems like in that lighting you wouldn't be able to see any kind of words or symbols unless they were actually etched onto the blade.

With those pics that McMahan supplied and the research that I just did, I definately think it's a BM 43 with a satin finish coating. I have been comparing the pics to the ones on benchmade.com's pic of the BM43. It has the same bowie blade and handle's. We all might be wrong, but my guesses go towards the 43. I guess we'll find out when the movie comes out. Yea so it doesn't have that many good manipulation's, but like Chuck said, this could make the balisong even more popular.

Those still frames look great!

It even shows what I suspected from the first time I saw the
preview - that is not Snoop Dog manipulating that bali!:)

Ummmm Fossil Hunter, that actually is Snoop Dog manipulating the bali. Do some research on the movie and watch the trailer a few times, then tell us that it isn't Snoop Dog. He is the only person in the movie that uses a balisong.

Damned near looks like an Imada 'High Hollow', no WeeHawk........

Looks like a 45 to me. It doesn't have enough swedge to be a High Hollow or 42. The 45 has a short swedge, much like this knife.

Oh, what I meant was it looks like a stunt double doing the
tricks. Maybe I am wrong, but the still frames look like
the guy is white?

i've been waiting damn near forever for this movie to come out. i sure hope it doesn't suck. the only problem i gonna have is when everybody goes to see the movie and starts calling the balisong a switchblade. then everybody will see me playing with my knives and jump up and down saying those are illegal. then i have to take time out of my busy life to explain the difference between the two. you might ask, but why make such a big deal about it? in indiana butterfly knives aren't illegal to have but switchblades are.

i don't think it's a 45 because it has to much belly compared to in the one in the frame. i'm thinking more towards an Imada 'High Hollow'or dare i reach to say a 43.

ixpfah, this is not the legal definition, but in general a switchblade is a knife whose blade is deployed by a spring when the user presses, pulls, or pushes a button (switch). The blade usually comes out of the side like a normal folder or out the front of the handle.

Here are some more pics from the end of the trailer when the knife is thrown:

Assuming that the same knife is used throughout the movie (which is a pretty big assumption), the slots on the outside of the handles would put an end to any possibility that this knife is a Benchmade. I remember looking at a jag one time at a knife store and from what I remember it had slots exactly like that on the sides of the handles. I also recall thinking that the blade looked one hell of a lot like a model 45 at the time. Did they or do they make skeletonized jags with round holes? If so, I’m going to have to change my vote from 45 to jag, at least for the knife used in this scene.

For all we know it could be a custom. They could also have used different bali's for different scenes. So they're is no telling what kind of bali it is.
