Anyone enjoy throwing or making boomerangs? I've been throwing them since the mid 80s. Never attempted to make one. My favorite is the Lorin Hawes M-17 made in Australia.

I went through a stage of being right into boomerangs a while back.
I still have a few somewhere in the house but havent chucked one for a long time now.
I might just have to dig one out and head to the park tomorrow :D:thumbup:

Threw them as a kid but not much these days.

I think they go way unappreciated in Australia, seen more as a tourist item. :(

I had one, but I had to burn it. I tried to throw it away, but it kept coming back.

Sorry. I couldn't help myself.:o

I've thought about making em but I don't think I could get the aerodynamics right. I watched a show where they made them and they said they were real tricky.

I have quite a few custom boomerangs. Hard to find a place to throw these day, plus I am getting to old to chase them.
Many happy returns,
Bobby

Here is the reverse situation:

Here are the lyrics to this classic by Charlie Drake:

My Boomerang Wont Come Back

(low chanting)
In the bad bad lands of Australia many years ago
The Aborigine tribes were meeting, having a big pow-wow
(chanting)
(low voice): We've got a lot of trouble, Chief, on account of your son Mac!
(midrange voice): My boy Mac, what's wrong with him?
(high-pitched voice, young prince): My boomerang won't come back!
(low voices): Your boomerang won't come back
(prince): My boomerang won't come back
My boomerang won't come back
I've waved the thing all over the place
Practiced till I was black in the face
I'm a big disgrace t' the Aborigine race
My boomerang won't back
I want a kangaroo (yeah yeah)
Make kangaroo stew (yeah yeah)
But I'm a big disgrace t' the Aborigine race
My boomerang won't back

Enjoy! :D

Absolutely! I have a bag-full of 'rangs. Even was in a tournament a few years ago. My Fast-Catch 'rang wouldn't handle the wind (tournament was at Kill-Devil Hills- where the Wright bros 1st flew- weird winds- bad place for a 'rang tournament) and I was directed to "Go borrow a rang from Eric". That was Eric Darnell- a pretty big name in the Boomerang World. It was a custom-made rang, made by Eric- I had 5 minutes to practice w/ it & it was the same rang he competed with. I finished about halfway in the ranks- wasn't too upset about that. I need to get out & throw.

Used one to play fetch with my Collie, gave him excellent excercise while maintaining my sedentry ideals. That ended when he came into my bedroom when I was at school and "killed" it. I bought a high spec one for my neighbour's (single mother) daughter, we had a great time in the local vlei with it when the weather was good. Finding time, location and decent weather is a tad hard here.

There's something about the flight of a boomerang that is beautiful. On a good day with a steady 3 mph wind, I can throw and catch a boomerang over and over without hardly taking a step. It's the perfect lazy man's sport. :D

I like them. and I made one a while ago but it wasn't good enough and not as tough as it should be (it broke when landed on the ground for the 3rd time).
I think they are awesome, love the plastic ones with the crazy shapes.

I use to take a business card and cut out a small boomerang shape with each arm being about an inch long. if hold one arm lightly between your fingers and flick the other with your finger it'll come back like a charm.
