When choosing a wood,I was thinking blackwood, maple or Matt has some walnut with cool burl in it.
Maple handle is in curing press tonite, acid is being used to bring the grain out, pics tomorrow,he says it REALLY brings it out.
Steel is W2.
I'll inform him of this thread and see if he has time to post.

Looking good, Doug! Whatever wood you choose, it will be nice with that handle design. Keep us posted.

Just got an email from Matt:

Doug,
Here's a shot of your boot knife before final shaping and polishing.
The knife is fresh out of the curing press.

The handle and guard are not flush,so it looks like there is a gap in the photo...the fit came out water tight.

I'll put the final touches on the knife tomorrow and box it up.

Matt was buffing the guard and it got away from him so he had to tear it apart and re-do it.
Guard is blued and I really like the contrast with the maple.
Came with a screaming sharp convex edge.

I like it. A nice stout little boot knife.

I too like the guard contrast.:thumbup:

You know I dig it. Great little knife and a gorgeous piece of wood for the handle.

I like the way it turned out, Doug. Wide blade, wide handle...should be able to tackle the toughest jobs. The blued guard works well on this one.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys!
I really wasn't big on blued guards but the way Matt does them has made a fan of me.
Also, his handle shapes and primo woods are very appealing.
Roger, congrats on your incoming big blade.
