I recently worked on my first slipjoint project with the help of Tony Bose and posted my progress in the ShopTalk forum. You might find this thread interesting because of Tony's notoriety at turning out world class knives. I am learning a lot from Tony and I'm proud to share that information here in the forums. Be sure to look at the links that take you to the series of pictures and text of a Backpocket knife he was completing at the same time I was working on mine.

You are a lucky man, Kerry! Nice knife- a memorable project!!

Beautiful knife, good of you to share the steps and what you were learning, and as Waynorth said, lucky man getting to work with Tony Bose. I think the term "Backpocket Knife," is a great descriptor.

So when can we expect to see these for sale? ;)

Oh...I wouldn't want to compete with my pal Tony. HUH HUH HUH!! Right:rolleyes:

Seriously, it is amazing how many steps it takes to make a quality knife like this. Tony can finish one of these Backpocket knives in a little over 3 days, not including the blade/spring rough grind and heat treat. I will make some to sell but they will be few and far between since I am a part time maker.

Tony told me, "Now that you have that under your belt, you need to work on a 2 blade". I have a 4 1/4" Saddlehorn I am beginning to work on, starting with making a set of patterns off of Tony's. I also have a 3 1/2" Swayback Jack that will follow.
