hi all

well i finally ordered my bowie. you may remember i picked my buck strider after lurking here for a while.

i decided on buying a cheaper bowie as i wont be used too much right now, and then get a good multitool as well.

so i bought the becker bowie in black, and a gerber. i recken it a good choice, and if a can advertise, Mike from "bestknives" is a nice guy !

one thing though my buck had a little ball bearing fall out within 5 mins allthough my knife works fine, is it dangerous ?

cheers guys

josephus-- the ball bearing could be your ball detent, which is a little ball bearing that fits usually on the liner lock itself and helps to keep the blade in the closed position. Without the bearing, the knife blade might come open more easily, perhaps even when you aren't expecting it. Check and see if there is a little hole where the bearing should fit in the end of the liner lock arm close to the blade pivot. If it is missing, you should probably have it repaired/replaced for safety reasons, though if the blade isn't coming open, it might not be worth it.

thats the very thing !

i looked and your right. i just tightened it up a little afterwards and its fine. its still flicks open but is fairly secure.

what is it with buck ????? i mean i wanted an american tool because they are the best.

i bought a buck multitool, the funny swing open one, and not only did one arm break and refuse to stay closed, but later on the other side the back broke off, and all the tools came off.

its not like im a navy seal disarming mines underwater, im a window cleaner! the most abuse it got was scraping paint of windowsills.

if it wasnt for this forum, id be very dubious about us knives and multitools, but i will avoid buck in future.

cheers

Josephus-- Buck has an excellent reputation for customer service and quality. Even so, knives and multitools sometimes leave the factory with problems. I'm sure that if you contact Buck, they will be happy to take care of the problems for you. Buck Knives has a forum here in the Makers/Manufacturers section. You could post your problems there, or contact Buck directly. I'm sure they'll make things right for you, no questions asked.

fair point

i was, and am drawn to buck, perhaps its the cristian ethos youknow.

sadly im not a big recipt keeper, and the multitool is at the bottem of a dump now. and as for my kick ass (even if its missing a ballbearing) knife. im not letting it go anywhere.

cheers

I am not a Buck representative, so I can't speak for them, but I think Buck is the kind of company that will take care of its customers with or without a receipt. Someone, I'm sure, will correct me if I'm wrong.
