Ok i've seen plenty of bowies from the 1860's to the ones sold today. Plenty of them are different, from having no false edge, to having blades of 5 inches. The Busse Basic 9 ALMOST looks like a bowie, except it has no guard and no swedge. So after looking at these examples, is it safe to say that the term "bowie knife" is now a term that describes a wide selection of different styles of knives? What about the knives sold today that almost have a bowie blade?

If Mr. Bowie possessed one copy of every different configuration of a knife that was labeled as "Bowie", "Original Bowie" et cetera, et cetera, he would have been one of the world's foremost knife collectors. In the present time it seems that almost any large knife is destined to be referred to as a "Bowie" by some self-styled expert!
