I don't see his name dropped a lot, but there's something about Bian Tighe designs that turned me on and so I up and ordered a new knife of his: the Tighe Phoon. It's my most expensive purchase to date, but man am I happy about it.

I got an early one, #3 of 25 and am showing it off as much as I can. There's a sleek sophistication to the lines curves and bevels thats really attractive, but doesn't hide that this is one tough knife and not just particularly for utility, but a fighter/defensive knife. I hope I can meet Mr. Tighe maybe at the New York show (leaving checkb0ook and credit cards at home!) and check out his other goodies live.

Would love to hear what anyone else has of Mr. Tighe's and how they like it.

I have never seen his knives in person but love the designs. Any pics of the new knife? Thanks. -Lev

Count me among the Tighe fans. I have been privileged to handle some of his knives in person, and they do not disappoint. Very impressive craftsmanship and designs that are almost sensual, and I rarely use that word to describe inanimate objects. And since I am happily married, and want to stay that way, I don't use that word on much else either.

Fit and finish on all his knives that I have seen and handled are excellent. I do prefer my knives with a little more belly than he usually uses.

Any pics of the new design?

I have several of Brian's knives and I've had the great pleasure of being acquainted with him for several years. I'm surprised to hear that he isn't that well known. He is very well known and very highly respected up here. Les carries some excellent pieces by Brian but his work is in a number of places. If you see one, grab it :) He is a very busy guy, and deservedly so. I think one of my two best folders is a damascus and pearl liner lock Brian made for me with engraving by Jose De Braga.
Brian's work is very, very precise and beautiful. Brian is an artist [he is an excellent photographer etc and he has great taste in general] and iy shows through in everything he does. Also, you have to see his shop to believe it.
On top of it all, Brian is an incredibly nice guy. And I'm not just saying that. He really is.
If you like the designs you can be sure the quality will be superb. I love the designs, and he has some very interesting new ones, including a pending collaboration with Pirella.
As I said, Mr Tighe is super busy, but Les Robertson seems to be able to get some goodies when most others can't. He has that gift :)

PS
I like that new broader design, and the guard is a great idea too.

I agree that it's not often one can use the word "sensual" to describe an inanimate object...but Brian's knives are very sleek and sexy...so I think he's earned such a description.

I am surprised to see anyone say he's not well known...I thought he was very well known. I've admired his work for some time now.

I wish someone would post a photo of one of his super-sleek folders, like a folding dagger...the man has an eye and the talent to follow through.

Nick

I'm glad to read you all like the Vanguard Tighe-Phoon.

As most of you have observed Brian's work is excellent and sleek. This is what gave me the idea to have Brian do a departure from his standard work for his next Vanguard knife.

Much to my delight (but not surprise), Brian did an excellent job with a big user as well. Additionally, this is the first knife he has done with a "flipper" opener on it.

In addition to being a very talented knife maker, Brian is also very versatile. One of the things I look for most in a maker I choose to work with.

Brian has never turned down a request from me to use a material he has never used before.

Brian is now using Stellite as well.

If you are looking for a world class knife at an affordable price, Brian should be right at the top of your list.

True North Knives

Good day,

Brian Tighe is getting some well deserved attention here on this forum.

He is one of the best- not only for his tactical knives but for his art folders pieces as well.

His work is always in demand and he is always accomodating and a pleasure to deal with.

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend and I look forward to meeting up with many of you at the 24th Annual New York Custom Knife Show November 2-4, 2001.

Take care, Neil
