so i was looking at BRKT fire-steels and realized that the more im on this forum the more i see pics and hear recommendations for barkies. but i have never actually seen them. i know that they have busse like groupies (well i should just lump myself in with the busse groupies i own 6 :) ) that will defend them too their dying breath but i have heard some members say that the company/owner is unethical or a jerkoff and that sometimes their finished products leave much to be desired.

im not trying to start an argument here but can a few people plz weigh in with some civilized comments? :foot:

im particuraly interessted in their bravo models and of course their fire-steels with the micarta grips pricey but gorgeous:cool:

I have two Barkies, which are my finest knives. If you get one and it isn't perfect for some reason, they will quickly make it right through their excellent customer service. If you do something stupid and wreck one, they will replace it.

I did read something about a business deal going bad, but for that one story of a busines ethics problem, there are thousands of positive anecdotes and reports.

This site http://www.dlttradingcompany.com/ has a very good selection of Barkies. I have only bought from them once. It was years ago with no problems. I also got a Barkie on the bay. I have only owned the Highland knives in A-2. They are great knives IMHO.

Do yourself a favor, and stay away from BRKT products.

Please expand. i would like to know why i should stay away from them. I am not trying to be rude to you but it is not sufficient to tell me to stay away from them. I am interested in the facts concerning BRKT and whosoever owns it at this time:confused:

I have had my hands on several Barkies and I'm down to 1, the Aurora. Fit and finish are near perfect, some of the best customer service and warranty I have ever seen.

You asked about the bravo, I had one but ended up trading it out for my aurora. The bravo 1 is a no non sense blade, built like a brick sh#t house that will cut like no tomorrow. I will admit that I hated the kydex sheath and found it to be a total POS, but the aftermarket leather is tops. The only reason I traded my bravo away was for a bit of weight reduction.

Nothing about the owner or his business practices is unethical. Mike is a great guy. He also has a close and personal relationship with the knife community at the other place. Any questions you have about his knives or his company you can post in his forum and expect a real answer.

Mike's warranty is extremely simple. If there is anything "to be desired" with one of his knives he will fix or replace it. No better warranty exists.

Sounds like you are describing Lynn Thompson and Cold Steel.

Mike Stewart is great. BRKT turns out excellent knives. Mike is very active with his customer base on that other knife forum. Great guy, great knives.

I have 3 barkies, Woodland Special, Blackwater Boot Knife & The PSK.
Of the 3 I carry the PSK daily in the Adirondack Pocket Sheath with my small sebenza. Its a great knife!

barkies are great knives,,so is their customer service,,,i have 2 barkies right now and love em,,:D

Besides the high quality of the knives and the customer service, Bark River also has an incredible diversity of models, which you can get with pretty much any handle material. While the BRK&T website is worth browsing, you will only get an idea of the variety available by checking out his dealers' inventories. They are updated much better than the company site.

I have 6 barkies, Bravo-1, Canadian Special, Woodland Special, Micro Canadian, Wolf River, and the Fox River. Great blades, both fit and finish. I think the biggest problem with the knives is the plethora of handle materials available to choose from:D

There was a long thread awhile back about a BRK&T business deal that didn't work out - something about an early run of full-tang Kepharts. It's a disappointment when that happens (and I'm sure every company has had a deal go bad in its history at some point), but I wouldn't boycott an otherwise good company for it. The positive comments for BRK&T products and customer service are overwhelming. Yes, I'm a fanboy.

I've had 7 and am down to five, but the population will be going up again in the future.
Wasp, Forrester, Clax, Northwind, mini slither are the current ones. I had another Northwind and a medium sized slither. They've all been great knives with a great fit and finish.

Well that seems to dispell any negative thoughts or reservations i may have had about purchasing a BRKT fire-steel. Maybe a knife or two in the future they do seem to have some very pretty models and their fire-steels are gorgeous.

Thanks for the input pretty soon i should be sporting a new black micarta fire-steel :D

FWIW--If I were buying a firesteel--especially Black--I would buy an Army Firesteel by Light My Fire. It is the same function for MUCH less money. Firesteels are things that are used up--I prefer to spend my $$ on Knives.

I LOVE BRKT knives, BTW.
