This Damasus & Curly Maple beauty arrived today & I just had to share. ;)
WarbirdHawk-2.jpg

There are a couple of additional pix on my Hawk page but the pictures don't do it justice. Bruce's crafting of the Damascus head and his resisted etching really give the appearance of feathers.

The spike/bird's beak isn't sharpened but its ~1/4" diameter tip still makes for a very nasty head hammer. I've wanted one of these since I first saw his design over a year ago. I saw this one FS last week & couldn't pass it up.

It's too pretty for me to beat the hell out of it like some of my other hawks. Nevertheless, I still can't wait to get back upstate & let her fly a few times.

Cool 'hawk, Brian! I like the sculpting of the spike into a bird's head. Not the most "tactical-looking" tool, but I'm sure it's plenty effective none-the-less.

Thanks, Burke.
"Not the most "tactical-looking" tool" -- have you been listening to Les? ;) :D

"Not tactical-looking" doesn't necessarily equate to "not tactical," so I think I agree with Les on the "tactical look" but disagree that that is what defines a knife as a "tactical". Boy, and I thought I was done with semantics after my English degree. :)

Oh, I knew exactly what you were saying, Burke. I just couldn't resist having a little fun. ;)

Excellent score.
On the 'dream list' is an Evans matched pair...Hawk & Dragon Slayer :D
Way to go,
Wally

Thanks, Wally. A matching Dragon Slayer was my exact thought too. ;) In fact, I mentioned it to Bruce via e-mail when I told him about scoring the hawk. Someday...

You have love that saying does not look tatical If you can
sink the spike In some ones head....... It seems tactial to me
and sure fits its purpose

Brian C Glad you like the Hawk...I was just learning about hawks when I made this one and didn't know to sharpen the beak, that would be no problem to do on one if someone wanted that way..
Here is a picture of a set I did for a guy that wanted Osage Orange for the handle material on his hawk and slayer. And both have 5160 forged round rod for the steel.I think the spike on this hawk will be more to the liking of the guys wanting a tactical look ...
Again glad to here that everybody likes this little hawk..

Pinar, I couldn't agree with you more. I was just having a little fun below by referencing the way some folks seem to equate tactical with needing to be black.

Thanks, Blues. It's my fanciest hawk so far but I still intend to see how it flies when we get back up to camp.

Bruce, you must be a quick learner since there is no way that it looks like a maker's early piece to my eye. As to the beak not being sharp, I doubt that a skull bone would know the difference. ;) BTW, that is a seriously pretty set you posted. Some day...

Thanks Brian C.If my memory is correct this was my #3 hawk I ever made..
Glad to here you like it..
Bruce

Some people would say an icepick is not tatcial but that sure gets the job done......Oh that is one nice hawk.Saw your toys very very nice a colection to be proud of
