I bought a Buck 110 a week ago. I absolutely love it. However there is blade play. I don't know if it came that way (I did not check when I got it) or if it has developed it over the last week. Does anyone else have or has had this problem? Also, what should I do about it?

A couple of good strikes on the pivit pin with a rubber mallet. Thats what I do and it seems to work.

Send it back to Buck to fet a new one. Sounds like something is broken, not just blade play. They will send you a new one, no problem...

I don't think anything is broken, the play is very minor. However it is getting worse, I think. So sending it back to buck is probably a good idea.

I've had the odd one over the years with a small amount of play,do you mean when the knife is in the open/locked position?,Or the closed position?I normally don't worry about a bit of blade play ,it doesn't effect the performance of the knife at all.If its a lot of blade ,lay in the open position,i'd send it in thats a warranty issue Buck will take care of.good luck.

If it has only been a week, why not take it back where you bought it and get a new one? I wouldn't hassle with a factory return, shipping, getting RMAs, and a month of waiting over that.

It's so hard to tell what someone means by "blade play."

Any blade will move side to side when open if you really crank on it. Some, I think, get a 110 and immediately start jerking the blade back and forth with great vigor and find that if they do it hard enough they can find some wiggle.........duh.

Most people would do better not to worry about such things.

;)

The way the OP states the play in the blade is " side to side, up and down, and seems to be getting worse." That sounds like something is broken. Take it back or send it in. This isn't complicated. If your knife ( not your knife directly) has an issue, you know shouldn't be there, get it fixed. There's no reason to talk about it, in length, unless you just want something to talk about. In that case lets keep on contemplating new ideas on how to fix this issue. Any new ideas???

OK I am not reccommending this, but this is how i've fixed folders with blade play,I simply wrap the front bolster in black tape, then slowly sqeeze it in a vise, then i buff the pivot pin down and its good to go.I don't suggest you try this,i've had 110's a long time and find this happens to one or 2 of them every now and again, especially the ones i lend out.I am all done lending my knife ,just had a buddy snap my blade off in my ag 110.

I'm visualizing a scenario that I believe happens over and over again.

Happy new knife owner shows off his gleaming new 110 to "knife-savvy" friend.

Friend opens it and bends blade back and forth with all the strength his 250 pound body can muster.

"Hmmmmmm," he says, "seems like you got a little BLADE PLAY there.......these new ones are all made in China now, Y'know."

New knife owner is crushed. Drives home in a dazed blue funk. Sits at home frowning and morosely wiggling blade and drinking from a jug marked XXX. Checks the Internet. Finds BladeForums. Reads about "BLADEPLAY." AHA!!!

"I can fix this myself!!" he rejoices, dancing about the room.

Smiling broadly, off he goes to find a rubber mallet.....or a big phone book......or wrappings and a vice.

BUCK INC.--PREPARE FOR INCOMING.

What I do with knives I have bought of the bay (Schrade LB-7, Camillus 886, Imperial Frontier 4815 and Buck 110) is to use two blocks of MDF and a large vice. The MDF will not mark up the brass or nickel silver. I have had a couple that that doesn't even work on but most tighten right up.
