"regular" Buck 110 at KMart, $29.95
"regular" Buck 110 local gun shop. $59.95

I would much rather spend my money with a local gunstore but thats a pretty big difference for going 3 miles down the road.

I'd go with KMart, but I'm hella poor..
:p

That's an excellent price at KMart; the typical online prices are around $35.

Screw the gunshop.

Capitalism my friends, same knife 1/2 the price. I think they're only $29.80 at Wal Mart ;)

Yeah, know what you mean. When I first got into knives, I went to a knife shop and bought a 110 for about that price. Later on I realized I could have gotten a much much better price else where. Really kicked myself. But in defense of the knife shop I went to, he did let me handle lots of knives and spent time with me....

For such a large difference in price (that is like double!) I would just go for the cheaper place, which in this case is K-Mart. I like to try and support the smaller local stores, but I also like to be able to eat. Generally if something is available locally from a small independant store at a reasonable price I will buy there. If the pirce is double what I can get it for from down the road or online, well sorry I need to live too.

Ever see the Southpark about Wal*Mart? Once they finally destroyed "The Wal*Mart" and everybody started shopping at the local drug store, it became "The Local*Drugstore" big as Wal*Mart lol :D :D

I got my last one (Idaho tang stamped) at Academy Sports and Outdoors for $29.99 about a month ago. They are located in Alabama, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi and Oklahoma. Not Wal-Mart. :barf:

Don't just blame walmart. Buck is responsible for its pricing and its arrangements with their retailers. Not all businesses want to play the walmart game and some refuse to be a walmart supplier. I have a friend who declined to be a walmart supplier because of their terms. In some recent articles on schrade, their deep discounts to walmart and others were what helped lead to the company's demise. Sometimes lower volume, but higher price leads to more sustainable growth.

I just called my local dealer and he pays $26.50 for a Buck 110 from his wholesaler. That's in qty's of 1.

So even if WalMart wanted to only make ~$3 per knife they could still under cut everyone else if they were not getting a deal from Buck. That's just over 10% margin which isn't bad for a mass merchant.

I don't blame ya for helping the machine known as Walmart, I had the choice of buying my 110 at the knife dealer I go to for 60 bucks, or getting a 110 at the local Walmart for 30 bucks. You decide which one I went for.

Last year I started buying most of my knives from a local knife shop. Its prices are anywhere from $10-40 above internet dealers. It's worth the difference to me to be able to handle and inspect a knife before buying, support a local business, and participate in some of the store's knife-related activities (at one my son won a new Camillus Dominator :D ).

That said, I'd have gone for the Whatever-Mart 110 too.

Looks like I am off to the wal~mart!! I had my 110 taken many years ago and often thought of getting another.

Man, forget the walmart. Give the Kmart your money, they're the only real competition that walmart has. They need at least one strong competitor. Nobody should have all the business.

I am all in for suporting local shops, however double prices will make me go to the market shop. I don't mind paying 10 bucks more at a local to support them, but Buck is responsible for the deals with those supermarkets. Hell... being a knife nut like me.. costs lots a money... and if I can by a knife, some steaks, lots a beer for less the price of one knife at a local..... choise been made, right!!

Local shops in my area know me and my love for knives and they often give me a good discount, this way I help the local shops, they keep me as an customer and we all get what we want. As soon as they double the prices, I will call it the day!

High regards.

See if the gun shop will price match. If not, buy it from K-Mart.

Sure, but be prepared for some negative attitude. Gun shop owners/employees are the worst in customer relations in my experience.

$60 is retail, and that is what a gun store or cutlery store pretty much has to sell it for to survive. That is why if you find something at a mass merchant, you probably won't find it at the local cutlery store.

As for service, if you are a regular customer at a local store, you'll get much better service than at WalMart or K-Mart.

Go for the S30V 110 that Cabela's has for $59.99. Nicer handles and blade steel. Believe me, you'll be glad you did. That bad boy is SHARP. :D
