I have been carrying a Buck 313 for 30+ years now and am trying to get some information on this particular model.

What years were they made?

Did Buck make all or some of them?

My clip blade has "Buck Made In The U.S.A." on one side and "313" on the other side of the tang yet I have seen models on E-Bay that have all the printing on one side, what's the difference?

My model has a cut out for the thumb only for the clip blade while others have have a cutout for the thumb on both sides, what's the difference?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

John

1972-1998

None, they were always Camillus contract knives.

Your has the tangstamp prior to 1973, after that it was what you are seeing on Ebay.

Just a change made during production, sometimes on Camillus contract knives, you see them made to Bucks design, but at some point many of them were slightly changed to match Camillus' own production lines, to make them easier for Camillus to make.

My guess would be that's why there are some differences.

I must say I've learned a lot from this thread and the 301 thread. I never knew Schrade and Camillus made these knives for Buck. Is it just the 300 series slip joints that Buck contracted out?

Not counting the new imports, yes. And only certain models were contracts.

I've been slowly revising a list, and it's always up for refinement if anyone sees an error, please point it out for me.

Schrade made models:
301
303

Camillus Made models:
301

Buck Factory Made:

I like your list except for one thing. Either 330 or 331 are wrong. One of these two numbers refers to the small Barlow. The number that doesn’t refer to the Barlow is not a valid Buck 300 model number. I can never remember which number is the correct one for the Barlow. The ersatz Bucks (made by Camillus for Smoky Mountain Knife Works) are the 322 Congress, the 329 Freedom Trapper, either 330 or 331 Barlow, the 332 Granddaddy Barlow, the 333 California Toothpick, and the 334 Millennium Trapper. The model number is not on the Barlow and mine doesn’t have a box so I am always unsure about the right number.

the 332 Granddaddy Barlow,

The 332 was not the Granddaddy Barlow, it was the small Barlow.

Here is one with it's box.

The 331 was the Granddaddy Barlow.

On my master list, 330 is the one I have always had a "???" next to, so it's probably the bad number.

The 330ME was a trapper set with iron wood inlays that we did back in 1993. It used the model 312 and 314. The knives were serialised. I can't find my notes on how many we made but I think it was either 125 or 250.
Hope this helps.

Ditto. On that 301 thread where GMan351 asked who made the knife when it was clearly marked BUCK in the picture, I asked if it was a trick question.

That was when I was still in the "I didn't know what I didn't know" stage. After a few intelligent responses from some of the "MASTERS" on this forum. I progressed into the "I know what I don't know" stage. And now I'm slowly starting to move into the "Enlightenment" stage as I learn more about this series.

What a great forum! :D

I stand corrected TLC. I hate it when they don’t have model numbers and my copies don’t have boxes.

Never understood why some of these Camillus contracts don't have the model number on them myself, but it seems it's mostly the later SFO's for SMKW that don't.

Sometimes I think "gremlins" at the knife companies do it just to mess with future collectors! :D

313, Made in USA, number on reverse of tang
313, USA,one cutout for nail nic
313, USA, two cutout for each blade nail nic
And alas, 313 not pictured as I do not have one, it is one of my quests,
it would be one with serrated spey blade.

300BUCKS - ouch! Wouldn't a serrated spey blade be counter productive and cruel? Nice 313's by the way.
