Hi all.

I ran across a Buck 317 a few weeks ago on ebay and have been lusting over the knife ever since, but I can't seem to talk myself into the price (going rate around $50 on ebay). This is a model that I've never seen before.

Was it made in house by Buck? Or is a Camillus contract knife? What are the years of production? Most that I've seen on ebay didn't have date stamp (that I could see at least). Is the steel 440C or 420HC, or...?

It looks like a nice knife, is it worth the $50+ for a piece in good condition?

I'm really thinking about bidding on a few of them but would like a little more information first.

Thanks.

Will give you basic info. as I read it and Larry Oden or Joe can add anything more detailed.
_ 317 Trailblazer, Camillus, Began production 1972 ended 1986
_ No date stamps, small nail nick, early models say BUCK, Made in USA,with
317 on reverse of tang, later models just say BUCK, USA, 317
_ Prices on Ebay for MIB go near $100 frequently, I am guessing they look
good strapped to a black belt when astride a Harley.
_ Thats my quick and somewhat total knowledge :foot:

hmmm...

That $50 or so looks pretty good. Maybe I'll throw a few bids down and see what happens. It looks like it would make a great user.

Thank for the info guys.

I keep going over and over this knife. I've been lusting over a BM710 for years, so that's going to be my first knife purchase of '06 (aside from the Buck 501 I got on ebay lastnight). Once I've got that Benchmade, I'm setting my sights on one of these 317s.

Opps, forgot to mention that there was a third version, a factory secondary serrated blade, these are rare and go for even bigger "BUCKS". I am looking for this one in MIB or even M myself.
Not many boxes seem tp show up with 317's ,so you may should feel good about only getting an original sheath in excellent shape with the knife.....
