Buck Custom "E" Mark

I have a Buck Custom that's marked with "E" on the reverse ricasso. I've heard a couple different versions of what this mark means from that it basically meant a factory second (Error), to designating an employee purchase knife, or a combination of the two. Anyone know for sure?

Buck currently marks their factory seconds or blemished knives with "FB", "Factory Blemish". I seem to recall reading somewhere that the "E" on a blade notates "Experimental", but I've been known to be incorrect.

A little of both is what I hear... I have a few of them my self... I think they are seconds... But I can't find anything wrong with them... Like scott said, "Experimental" I have heard that too...

I can't see the one I have as having any defects whatsoever. I've sent Buck's custom shop an inquiry, so I'll see what say they.

Do you have any pics of your knife, that you can post for all of us can see it???

It's currently listed on an online auction site, so I don't want to cross over into the spam arena with the thread. I'm just really curious now and want to know for my own satisfaction. After it sells I can update the thread with detailed photos.

YEP scott is correct on the current marking of error knives as FB

YEP scott is correct on the current

now also have seen sellers in the listing jest noted as that it has an E or FB
many times i have replied what it is but they never correct the listing
guess they think it means less money...and jest rather not say.:thumbdn:

...Or possibly I'm waiting for verification from Buck instead of adding information from a rather cryptic message that I have not been able to confirm. 12 hours and one message does not necessarily mean that a seller is just after a maximum sale price.

nothing cryptic here. your .first words =
DO i have issues with sellers coming here wanting to know what they can get for a knife.. heck yes..
when i joined here 5 years there was very little discussion of what a knife should sell for
then 2 years ago suddenly every one comes here wanting to know what it is worth..
so i wont be cryptic..
unless you correct your listing you are no better then any other non-collector trying to make a buck off a collector
none of us mind the person that wants to know as you said you wanted to know.. to say then that it is listed ... i would get banded for that

by the way do speak for the bcci club or the others on the forum
NO
and there are several here that will tell you so..
do folks come on here to get info from collectors to get more money for a auction listing .. heck yes..

I'm not here to start a PP match or to find out "what's it worth." Nearly 2,000 posts over several years is not generally the profile of such. I'm a long-time collector that simply wants to know what the mark means. Many BF members have done business with me over the years, so I don't need to justify my intent here. If I verify that my descriptions or knowledge is wrong, then I fix it...bottom line. You may be 100% correct and likely know much more on this subject than I do...I just don't know that yet. It would be no different than someone emailing me stating that the "E" meant it was Chuck's personal knife he used for elephant hunting. I wouldn't convey that information unless and until I verified it. Simply due dilligence.
