So . . . there I was . . .

Buck Knives had a factory clearance sale today, right next to the plant at the event center, about 7½ miles from my house.

I got there late, but in plenty of time to do damage to my wallet.

Today's haul:

Factory Blems: (1x) 301 Stockman, (2x) 310 Whittler, (1x) 55 Mini Hunter, (1x) 303 Cadet. All of these were approx 60% off.

Special Runs: (2x) 110 special configuration, rosewood scales and nickle-silver bolsters.

Discontinued: (2x) 298GY Sirus in gunmetal grey.

The 110s were at 50% off, the 298s were more than 62% off.

After purchasing all these, I went to the table where the current company president, C.J. Buck, and his dad (past president), Chuck Buck, were signing knives. I got them all signed, along with the 174 Cutback I happened to be carrying at the time.

Allocation:

The whittlers are for my granddaughters, to be dispensed by my daughter when the time is right. They become part of a growing pile of classic patterns already reserved for the kids.

The 55, 301, and 303 are spares for ones I already have.

One of the 110s is a gift for my mechanic in Carson City. Good mechanics are hard to find. This guy has been in the same location for more than 25 years. He replaced my clutch on New Year's Eve a year ago, had me in-and-out in a matter of hours, and didn't charge me extra.

One of the Sirus 298s is for my son. It replaces his Kershaw 3120 Black Gulch (so he can send it in for repair).

My presents to me: a new 110 configuration (hey, you can't have too many 110s), and a new pattern I've not tried before (the 298 Sirus).

And the best part? All of this was done with the wife's blessing.

All in all, a good day's knife shopping.

Oh, and if you want, I can post some pics.

Please do. Although my jealousy knows no bounds.

The best part of that story is that Chuck Buck was signing knives. SOG (Spencer Fraser) and Blade Tech (Tim Wegner) here in my area need to get on the ball and have clearance sales too, although I need another knife like I need a hole in the head.

Man,that's the best! You're lucky to be there. The nickel silver 110's are hard to come by.I think i'd prefer the Buck boys just sign the box, rather than scratch up my new blades tho.

Okay, I finally got my camera out of hiding.

Here, in no particular order are some pictures of the signed knives, a regular 110 that's not signed (for comparison), and some detail shots of signatures and the Sirus I'm sending my son.

BTW, the Sirus in question is the 297, not the 298. Notice the tang stamp on the 310 Whittler: it says 309. That's because the 310 IS the 309, with one more small blade.

Here ya go:

A custom 110 and 297 Sirus, both signed.

So, to wrap it up . . .

Some miscellaneous poses.

Oh, I did mention I got more than one, right?

Anyway.

That's all for tonight.

You are one lucky guy. You should be paying extra for those and not a discount price ;)

first, thanks for posting these photos... first time post here...

i was recently looking for a nice U.S.-made whittler and came across the mis-stamped 309/310 (it's being sold on-line by a big outdoor outfitter and includes an import wood box)...

interestingly, the same package is right now being flogged on eBay by a seller claiming that this knife is NIB 'old stock' from a mistake run by Buck years ago - and he wants $15 more than the same knife available on-line! sheesh!

i have discovered in my recent return to pocket knife fancy and whittling that unfortunately some old U.S. makers have gone out of business... made me dig my old U.S. govt-issue Camillus out of storage for a good cleanup (got it from a fellow Coastie, an Aviation Survivalman, when i had flight skins flying C-130s out of AirSta Sacramento in the 70s)...

it also appears that one must do some initial research in order to avoid purchase of import knives in lineups from domestic makers (such as Buck)!

ah well, the 309/310 pictured is very nice and quite a bargain (unless purchased on eBay)

:-)

anyway, thanks for posting the pics...
