Hey guys,

Hope all is well in Buck land!

I'm looking for some advice on which model of Buck Knife would be best for me to keep a few extra on hand that could be given out to friends, coworkers or family if it comes up. I carry a custom 110 and everytime I let someone use it they are very impressed and usually ask about it... I realize I can't be handing out customs.. but if they asked me for my knife they obviously need one themselves, and if they really do take interest in my knife I can maybe pass long a new Buck to them -getting them hooked! I guess what is inscope would be Buck's made down in the U.S. and on the cheaper side, I'd like to spend $100 and have 4-5 stashed away in my desk and work and my Jeep. Suggestions? It's not like I'd be giving many away at all really, just as it comes up, I have only ever done it twice in the past. I was looking at some Buck Lite MAX Large on the net but I wanted to get everyone's input.

The 501 is my all time favorite. Then comes to mind the 503 or the 055. You could go for the 110 and not go wrong. The selection is outstanding. However it comes to personal preference and that is a brand new can of worms. Put me on your list and I will be happy with whatever you choose.

The 110 would be my ideal choice as that is what I carry, although they retail for $48 cdn here at the local walmart, I'd like to keep it a bit cheaper if I could. It's unfortunate we pay a bit more up here for the Buck's as most of us carry and use them and they are probably the most popular knife.

I'd look at the Bucklites as they are more economically priced while offering the same size blade. I really like this line of Bucks they're light weight and rugged. Look at the 112/422 as many like that size. I've given away like 30 Buck knives thru the years to friends and family and everyone loved them. So, I think your on a good track. Good luck. DM

This is why I scrambled to find as many Paperstone Vantage Selects on clearance for $15.00 at WM recently! :)

I have also given away several Pilot and Mantis folders (not sure if those are still being made though).

Also the Nobleman.Scholar line is good but affordable.

Try to pick up some of the 110 christmas tins, they are always on the bay and go for 20-30 $$

I was at Wal Mart the other day and on clearance they had two Buck slip joints in a box marked down to $15 but they were made in China ones so I passed.I almost bought some to give away then changed my mind. They looked real nice and all, just couldn't do it.:(

I think the Bucklite idea is a great one. I just gave one of the orange handled B&C 110 models to one of my welding students. He had a cheap china made Winchester liner lock and was trying to poke a hole through a welding rod can when the knife closed on his index finger. He came into my office bleeding all over the place and I asked him if he wanted to go have a stich or two or go to a doctor and he declined. I bandaged him up and asked to look at his knife . He showed me that piece of crap and I asked him if I gave him a good knife would he promise to throw that one in the dumpster. He agreed and I got the orange handled Bucklite out of my lunch box and gave it to him. He said he had always wanted a Buck knife and this was his first one. He has been toting it for about a month now and his finger healed up niceley. Talk about going from near tears to a smile in an instant! When he gets out of our class, he will be going to work and he says he will be buying nothing but Buck Knives from now on !

I've given away as gifts dozens of Bucks and I try to fit the knife to the person that I'm giving it to. For instance, my Brother and my Son wouldn't carry and use a 110, 112 or any similar sized knife if they had a hundred of them. They will carry (and do) the 301's and 303's I've given them. Same goes for my Son's best friend who is a realtor and always wears a suit or slacks. I gave him a nice little stag handled 303 that he carries all the time. Guys that work outdoors or camp, hunt, etc. are more apt to appreciate the larger belt carried or large knives with pocket clips.

Instead of buying four or five of the same knife, I'd mix it up and have more than one pattern and size.

 You beat me to it Dave! Perfect post. The Bucklite max knives and Vantage series knives do well for giveaways. I gave both of my brothers a Tempest.... The possibilities are endless!

Seaplane, good story. Plumber, thats a good point as my father-in-law, "The Colonel" to me, likes the 300 series knives and hardly carries any other model. So, for him I gift that one. Those of this series with 'Made in USA' stamp go for 30$. DM

I use a Bucklite Max for my EDC and have a Medium for shorts carry in the summer. The Max go for $20 and the medium for less. Great knives for the price.

There are three farmers in KS, that get a new small Vantage select every spring.......oh did I mention Turkey hunting.......they like to see us driving up. Also give a Buck to the mailman each Christmas. When I have a box, he walks it to the door and rings doorbell waiting for someone to answer.......go figure. The small Vantages can be found for less than $20 quite often.

300Bucks

Isn't it against the law to bribe a pupblic official?! :) You get more flys with honey than you do vinegar! I know our postal workers catch alot of grief from the public and some of them really do a fine job at delivering our Bucks on time! Great stories everyone! Nothing makes a finer gift than a good quality knife.

I usually have a stash of nice knives to give away. The Bucklites would fit the bill by the sounds of things.

My wife was a bit confused by this practice, till I gifted her a nice little 426 that she's carried for years. She worked in the local high school and would give every kid in her homeroom a mini Buck when they graduated. They were all different colors and the kids loved them. Of course, this had to end after the "No Weapons" decree went into effect.

Wally world 110's are under 30, Vantage Selects, Bantams and Bucklites are good choices. The Ecolite 110's and 112's are a good choice for mid 20's.

Reznik, Do you get as tired as I do with these guys quoting you super cheap American prices? I dont know if your in Toronto but S&R knives is near the airport and quoted me these prices last week, now they dont stock these but he had no problem ordering them for me.
486BKS-B Folding bucklite max large 26.00
482BKS-B Folding bucklite max medium 23.00
345BLS-B Paperstone Vantage 36.00
345BKS-B Vantage Select Large 34.00

And they regularly stock the 110 at around 38ish, thats 10$ cheaper than wal-mart.

i also give away bucks to folks
used to here on the forum several times a year
but stoped that a while back
i keep several buck lites on hand
and i also will buy older ones that
are under 15 to 20 on auction sites
and fix thoes up with sharp edge and
give thoes away
the 3 dot are gooder ones as they are the first 110 to have
paul bos heat treat! thicker edge then the 4 dots the next year
harder to sharpen for the novice but great edge holding

yes a collection of buck lites is the way to go
