hi just got on this site i am a big fan of buck knives i was on the buck forum and noticed several people talking about 3dot and 4dot blades just wandering what that meant i am not a collector and i have not heard this term used before this a great site thanks

Howdy and Welcome to BladeForums.

Buck shows the year of manufacture by various symbols placed next to the tang stamp. 3-dot and 4-dot are a couple of those symbols.

We have an entire Buck Forum here and the folks who hang out there could tell you exactly what years these symbols indicate:

For example, my knife has a symbol of ohio or something, i forget.

That's either an anvil or the state of Idaho. Buck used the anvil in 2002 to mark a milestone anniversary (I forget which one) and the Idaho in 2005 to commemorate first production from the new plant there after the move from California.

thanks you for the info i have a few buck pocket knives but just have buck on them and one has buck 309 again thanks for the info
