I have had this knife almost a month now. Pretty much outside the norm for me to have something this long and it bugs the crap out of me, but this is my second try shown here. I've been forcing myself to take enough time off to let my hand heal properly after my accident. I think part of the reason I screwed up the first attempt so bad was due to pushing myself when my hand wasn't ready yet but par for the course it was an effort in frustration there.

Anyway, we'll try this once again and see how it goes. So far so good. Have to mill the lock next time out and if I can get that right I'll be on my way to finishing it out finally. Been a bit self conscious of having someone's EDC here this long but this time round it could not be avoided. The stud mounting on the blade gave me some trouble last time round as well as finding out my drill press didn't have a zero flat and drilled the pivot and all the body mount holes off. Bad deal there and I found out way late. All those holes off made for a bad blade action when it went together. Not sure but I must have bumped the press or something when cleaning. Just didn't catch it soon enough unfortunately. Hopefully not much longer on this one if luck is with me. Holes are straight this time..

In the end I have to come up with a new style pocket clip for this one since I have to drill and thread new holes in it anyway. Not sure how I'll approach that yet. Probably something a bit to the side of where the original mounts and in a low rider form. We'll cross that bridge when I get there though, right now I have to get it locked up and working.
Thanks for stopping by

I thought about buying a Buck Strider and having you mod it to a framelock. I have always admired your work. (I'm still debating on Sebenza. To trade or to mod.) But I have to ask, wouldn't it be just as much to buy a Strider?

No. Not quite. To get a Strider SnG which is the comparable folder to this one I'm redoing here would still be more by $100 to $125or more. Not sure what those SnGs go for new these days but I'm sure its upwards of $400. I've seen these Tarani Buck folders just like this one here with the ATS34 Bos heat treated blades go for $50 plus or minus. I have owned two and don't recall spending even that for mine actually. I snagged my first one used on another forum for around $40.

Hello, my friend !!Haven't been following up on your projects. Is this just to change the lock into a framelock? I thought I'd ask as I plan to buy a Spydie chinese Lum when prices settle and have it converted to a framelock. I will be away for a month(visit parents back home) and hope to get back to you when I get back. Sorry to hear about your accident and hope you take better care next time.Take care !!

Feel free to reach me when you arrive back stateside my friend and enjoy the visit.

My hand is getting back to norm now. Still puffy and tender in one area but much better all around now. Just a moment of lapse mentally on my part and it cost me a bit but otherwise doing fine.

Thanks for checking in.

Here is a shot of this one almost finished. I need to design a clip for this one now. Thats going to take a few to come up with various ideas for this one so I can make a low rider work on it.

This blade just will not center no matter. In my defense though it was off in the factory clothes when it got here. It is better but not as good as I'd hoped. Works great and locks up solid though and thats all that matters I guess.

Be there soon I hope on this one. I'm guessing tomorrow afternoon sometime.

that looks really good steve. I had one of those bucks and gave it away as a gift. Not a bad knife.

Looks Great STR!!!! Can't wait to handle it and see it with the Lowrider Clip. Sorry it was so much trouble! I replied to your email this morning. Got some other items you may be able to help me with as well. Much easier stuff! Thanks again...~kevin~

This one is all finished. I'm packing it up for the trip home here shortly. What I finally elected to do on this one was raise the low rider as high as I could get it without overhanging while at the same time avoiding the interference of the two mount screws. Then I curved it to match the point where the folder back corner ends up to both match the clip to fit and swing the raised area further away from the edge. In the end it made for a pretty invisible feeling clip that surprised me with the comfort in the hand. It rides nicely and I think it will also double as a bit of a lock stabalizer to make it doublely difficult to hyper extend the lock. Also, my lock cuts are thicker than most so that helps too.

Kevin big thanks for your patience here on this one.

Thanks so much for the great pictures! I encourage customers to post their own pics so this is quite welcome not only because they always look better when someone else take the shots, but also because it saves me from using up valued mega bytes of storage that has a limit. ;)

My camera usually has dead batteries by the time I decide to use it and its not that super anyway so I love it when folks post pictures for us.

I get the impression that you are quite familar with this folder. :D Nice comparison shots. My only regret is that I was unable to center that blade for you like you wanted. Otherwise its a great folder though that I am proud of since it gave me so much crap!:( Fortunately my stubborn streak won out. :)

Thanks again. I plan to save those to my hard drive if thats ok with you.

Enjoy my friend.

Feel Free... I will be getting some dandys when I can get a nice morning to shoot outside so you may have some more. As for the blade, it's only cockeyed in my pocket. When it's in my hand and deployed it's Arrow True!!!

I am not sure why its off center. It may be that the pivot hole in the blade is slightly off angled but it may have warped during heat treat or something just enough to make it cock to one side. At least its not dragging one side. For what its worth though, yours is not the only one I have seen with an off center blade like that. I've had others and the full blown Striders that way also. In fact the PT I just sold was just like yours but it never kept me from using the tar out of it when I carried it.

My wife just told me that I should refer to the Buck Strider conversions I do or am doing as my past Buck STRiders. Must me that doctorate kicking in again!

Sounds good though. Don't know why I didn't think of it!

My hat's off to you again for another sweet conversion STR!

Beauty of a mod STR! I have owned two of the ATS34 Buck Striders, they pointed me to my PT, SNG and SMF. I really liked the Buck models too, except for the liner lock, it was a little shaky. It would have been neat if Buck had produced their 889 (correct me if I'm wrong) series with a frame lock, but I guess we will never see that happen :(.

I passed on an ATS34 Buck/Strider for 30 bucks at a flea market couple months ago for the whole liner lock reason. Now I wish I would have picked it up.

:thumbup:Well I have had the Knife back a week now and it has been in my pocket or in my hand everyday. I can tell you this... It is a major improvement on the factory issue. Heres why. First and foremost the lockup is just plain SOLID!!! But even better the Lock release is Smooth as Silk... The linerlock on my other two 882's always hurt my thumb when releasing the lock. I believe there is a tad more weight with the new Ti-Frame and coupled with the new Ti-Clip the overall feel and balance seems to be far more Comfortable! As for the LowRider Clip it rides SO LOW in the pocket I think it's not there at times... I really enjoy how well it rides in my pocket when I am driving or on my Motorcycle. The break-in period is over. It is as Slick to open as anything I own. I have even made it a bit more snug, but still have not applied any oil. Oh and the Drooling!!!! I have handed it to many of my friends, who are Knife People and some who are not so knife people and they all find this knife in it's new config to be Very Awesome!!!! I will report back in a month or so but I am sure it will be another thumbs up:thumbup: STR I can't thank you enough! I had this Conversion in my head since I received my first 882. i know you had some issues but I appreciate you stayin with it. ~kevin~
