Has anyone tested the Buck Strider out? I am wondering how it will perform as a survival/camping knife. Thanks. Clayton Hufford

Hi Tom. I have checked out all the threads on the Buck Strider(I think) and no one seems to have actually talked about testing this knife out. Thanks. Cordially, Clayton Hufford

I ordered one awhile ago, depending on the mail I could have it in a week or so. What kind of thing specifically where you interested in?

I've read several reviews of the knife in Tactical Knives and Knives Illustrated. The consensus is that it is a stout and very strong folder that is made for hard use. Only two potentially negative points were made. First, the secondary edge to the from the primary to the point is not sharp (I believe Strider designed it that way for strength and for scaping) and the scales are not contoured. Some mention was also made that the grip was not "ergonomic" but you will have to read the posts in the Strider forum to get more in on that.

This puppy is a stout knife and is made incredibly strong. Here is a pix of my Strider that Neil Blackwood modified. It is a pretty and it is tactical. It is out getting a sheath from Gary Graley right now but should be in my hands by weeks end.

I haven't put mine to any really hard use yet, but I have used it to for some tasks I wouldn't subject my other knives to.
For instance, I've cut several cans in half, aluminum & tin, I made a good start on chopping my back patio down by hacking through the 2X4's that hold it together ( don't ask me why, cause I just don't know ),
I've broken up several bottles with the back of the blade, I cut a car tire completely in half with it ( again I don't know why ), and I've chopped down several "saplings". Overall, the Buck Strider has performed very well, and doesn't show own ill effects from my abuse.
At any rate, if you want a knife you can just abuse, the Buck Strider should serve you well.

After using a friend's Strider, and testing out other high quality folders like the SERE 2000, I have decided that a small fixed blade knife will serve ME better, and ultimately last longer. A high quality fixed blade knife can be had much cheaper than a folder of equal quality anyway. The Buck Strider is without a doubt the strongest folder out there, but it is still a folder

. If I had no choice but to carry a folder, this would be it. I jumped the gun and ordered one awhile back, and have since looked a little deeper into this matter, and so it will no doubt be for sale here when I get it later this week. Thanks to all for the advice here on the forums. Best regards, Clayton

How strong is that? When I took a look at one it certainly looked like it wouldn't resist twisting and bending better than most other large folders and certainly not in proportion to its blade thickness.

As far as folders go, it is the stongest one I have seen and used that includes the mighty Sebenza. There is absolutely no blade play in any direction...not even a hint of play when leveraging the blade. For a liner lock, this thing is like a vault. I am not sure if my knife is different than someone elses but I did have an excellent knife maker modify this knife (Neil Blackwood). Granted, I will not say that this is knife is stronger than my Busse Natural Outlaw but as far as folders go, it is stronger than any of the hundreds of folders I have ever tested or used. And no....I did not put it in a vise or anything...just my opinion.

I just wish it came in a drop point.

Would ya settle for a spear point, a la Strider MT? Because I've seen those, they are on their way.

Hi iktomi,

You wouldn't happen to know when Buck is going to start shipping those spear point striders to Dealers would you? I can't get much of an answer at the Buck forum. It will go nice w/ my Custom Strider drop point.

BH, for some reason, I'm thinking late February at the earliest. I THINK that is what Duane mentioned at the Timonium show. I'm almost positive not before that.
