So I just got a bucklite max medium at big five for $12.95 on sale.
And I love it. It's basically a 112 at a 1/4 of the weight with a stud and lowrider clip.
My question is, Why hasn't buck done an Avid and Pro series of these yet?
Or have they and I just missed them?
I would buy one of each size if I could get them in G10 and 154cm or s30v. :D

My very first knife was the 486 Folding BuckLite MAX large. I didn't know anything about knives at the time, but I did recognize the Buck name and the 486 was within my budget and just felt so right in my hands when I was trying out knives at the store. I love the way the knife fits in my hand. I love the low-riding pocket clip (though it would help some people if it was reversible). I love the slim profile that makes it look so sleek. I don't particularly care for the broken line between the spine of the handle and the spine of the blade though (unlike the 110, which just has a smooth uninterrupted line there). I also don't particularly care for the rivet/pin construction; with the exception of classics such as the 110, I prefer screw construction in my knives.

Anyway, I went off on a tangent. I totally agree with you there. I like the design, but I don't particularly favor the all-zytel handle construction. If variations in materials were offered, I'd pick up another folding bucklite max in a heartbeat. And no, there are no Avid or Pro versions of the folding bucklite max.

Well I think it is in the name itself. The Pro series is for professional type use and by design, the Bucklites are built as an affordable all purpose knife. I doubt anything originally built with thermoplastic will carry an Avid or Pro designation. Although I sure wouldnt mind having one with upgraded steel.

Hm, good point about the product line and the name. But with the way Buck has been going with the Select, Avid, and Pro versions of various knives, I sorta wish they'd do something similar with the Bucklite Max folders.

yes i agree that it migh make better sales to have a slect and pro ect verisons
but
they are light weight versions of the ranger and folding hunter kinda the avid verisons of thoes
that 486 is a wonderfull go to edc .. slimer then the old buck lite easer in the pocket also
and .. heaven for bid it should grow leggs as so many bucks do
it wont cost you a finger to get a new one !!
hee hee you should see the 486 blalde in a 110 frame ... sweet..

My Bucklite 482 finds its way to my pocket most days lately. I'd love a 110 Bucklite with CPM 154 or S30V steel, but the 482's plain jane 420HC takes a scarey edge and holds it surprisingly long.

I realy like the whole idea behind the bucklite line which I've felt is producing an excellent "user" knife at an affordable price by means of making it less ornate and more plane jane functional.
