Here's a little bit of interesting information,
Hoyt Buck's favorite knife was the 118 Personal. It was called the Personal because it was his personal favorite!
Al Buck's favorite knife was the 401 Kalinga. He even named his boat after that knife.
Chuck Buck's favorite knife has always been the 500 Duke. I "found" what was probably the first Duke ever made. It is enscribed, "personally hand made for Chuck Buck by Bob Almony". Bob used to work at Buck many years ago. That knife is in the company museum.

Hope someone finds this interesting?

Take care,

Joe,
This is a neat thread. It got me to wondering about which model is your favorite and also which is CJs?
I also had to contemplate my favorite. As a collector, it has to be the early factory production models in white melamine. I only have four of them and would be hard pressed to name just one of them as my favorite. These knives are very rare as Buck soon discontinued the white melamine due to its tendency to easily crack in extremely cold temperatures. I love their looks!
As a using knife, the 110 is easily my favorite for cleaning rabbits which is just about all I hunt. For daily carry, it must be the 182 carbon fiber with ATS-34 as that knife is in my pocket everyday. If only the 501 had a pocketclip... on second thought, it would look rather clunky with a pocketclip. I guess I will stick to the
Odyssey 182 CF!!!
How about the rest of you?

i carry a buck 110 folder...i like the size
of the knife...good all around knife...
i have a buck 110 folder with stag handles
i purchased this summer...i keep the stag
handled knife in a display case...you don't
see these much...the guy i purchased the
knife from stated that he had it for several
years before i purchased it...knife was new
and was of course higher priced...

The one I can never leave behind is the 532 that came out this year, with the BG42 steel. This is just one heck of a knife, the blade is like a scalpel, I have to be careful who I let use it though, a couple of co-workers cut themselves trimming some plastic TOWARDS their thumb!! They are used to knives that they must push through whatever their cutting, not so with my 532! Both ended up with razor like slices in their thumbs, didn't even feel the cut, till it bled a little! I tried to warn them, but they didn't believe me. NOW, they do!
I have two of these, one in the blue and one in the rosewood color. The blue one is the one I carry, the other sits in my knife cabinet. I like the 182 in CF too, but the 532 is just, well, my favorite.

I agree that this is a great thread. While I've carried many different brands (oh what a checkered past) and most models of Buck at one time or another, my absolute favorite is the 501 MasterSeries with dymondwood checkered handles and BG 42 blade. It is even better than the 532 MS that has been relegated to a place in the display cabinet. It is a perfect size for the pocket with out a clip for anything other than chopping wood.
Thanks Joe for your help to all of us over the years.

Great thread Joe. As a collector my favorite Bucks would have to be the sub-hilt Bowies. I carry a 503 with Siberian Impala scales but the 532 ranks right up there as a using knife. I really like the blade shape of the 532s.

I really like the two 532's that I recently purchased as well as the 182CF, but my all time personal favorite is the first "real" knife that I purchased 28 years ago- my 110. It doesn't matter how many customs that I have- I will never part with this knife, even with its' broken tip.

This is turning into a cool thread!
I have a very hard time trying to figure out which knife is my favorite. Most of the time it is the next knife that i don't have and am trying to get! You know what i mean?
Actually, i got my 15 year service award knife earlier this year and it is my favorite. It is a bowie, the design of which was only a prototype. We have only made 3 so far. John, aka Buckcustom has the first one! Mine has turkey prints laser cut through the entire length of the blade. It looks as though a big tom wondered across the blade! I have a modified 532 that Wild Bill made for me in which the rear bolster was ground off and he used mastodon ivory scales, hand carved to look like a turkey feather.
Anyways,thats it today.

While all the knives that have been mentioned above are favorites to one or more KnifeKnuts My favorite is a little talked about Buck 321. No 321 is not a typo, it is the model number of a Buck "Bird Knife" now discontinued. I received my first one as a gift from my father before a Pheasant hunting trip when I was about 16. For the next 10 years it along with a 110 cleaned many a pheasant, rabbit ,quail, dove and other small game including fish. When at the age of 26 I lost my right arm above the elbow in an industrial accident. While my hunting slowed this knife found its way into my pocket more and more, I found that the "Gut Hook" makes a perfect "Button Hook" for buttoning all manner of pants,

and after all a guy just never knows when he will need to button up

.So now I am NEVER without it, I use several different one handers for cutting chores but the task assigned to this "Bird Knife" is by far the most important task of any of my knives

. thanks for the chance to share my story.

Greg,
Thank for sharing your story and Welcome to the forums! By the way, those 321's are getting harder and harder to find these days.

Take care,

Since it appears that pocketclips are not wanted, I would cast my vote for a 501 with smooth polished asian water buffalo inlays.
The only downside to this choice is that I doubt if BG-42 steel is available for this blade although it was used once on the 501MS and hopefully, is still a reasonable alternative. Deep red (almost burgandy) jigged bone inlays would also be sharp!!

My favorite Buck would be either the 532 that I have now, with the BG42 blade, or the 500. I like the style of the 500 more, I believe, and it is the one that I have carried the longest. It is also the one that has dressed the most squirrels and rabbits. So I know it works well. Yep... my favorite would have to be the 500. If only I could get it in BG42.... sorry Joe, couldn't resist one more plug.

Sorry guys, I accidentally put the above on the wrong thread!! It was supposed to be on the thread about a Blade Forums knife. I will repost it in the correct place.

I'm with Greg. I think that the 321 is one of the handiest field knives that Buck has made. It has done a heck of a job on rabbits, squirrels, and trout over the last 15 years for me. As a close second, I also like the Buck crosslock horseman because of the hook pick.
