I have noticed alot of you guys score nice finds on E bay here. It seems that E bay is a pretty good outlet to find some of the older and hard to find Buck models as well. In the auctions, does the seller take the risk that the winning bid could be a lot less than the worth of the item? Anybody here ever sell their stuff on there?. I think I am going to sell a vintage 317, to fund other Bucks on my list and wanted to hear from any of your experiences. Thanks.

I'd study e-bay for a few weeks, looking at completed auctions on 317s and reading carefully the things written by all the sellers of 317s.

I'd also use the search on this forum to read up on 317s.

Then, having a good idea of value, I'd try to sell it here on the Buck Forum......(you may have to sign up for a paid membership here, but that's all good anyway). Don't sell to newcomers unless a proven old-timer recommends them.

Selling on e-Bay is tough right now......the odds are stacked against the seller, and unless you sell a lot of items, it's just not worth messing with it.

Seriously......I used to sell now and then, but e-Bay is rough on the small seller.

you have to factor in seller fee's and then to package up the knife then the shipping prices as well.

As a buyer the ones who seem to loose are the seemingly unaware ones. Blurry pictures, incomplete descriptions, and odd ending times( like 2 am on a tues night).
BG's advice is spot on.

I have never sold anything on feebay! Because they have a listing fee for everything + sold fee's ++++ = -money for the seller. You need to find a fellow buck collector who is into the 317 and sell to them. Selling here on the BF is a good idea only if you have many knives you want to sell; if you are only going to sell one knife there goes 1/3 the value of your 317 to upgrade so you can sell here.

Post some nice photo's of your 317....we all like good photo's.

Study the prices on Ebay, then put it up for sale on this forum for sale area listed above the regular forum. No fees.

If I a guessing right, someone or two have already private messaged you on what you got. But lets see a photo anyway, you will need one in the sale area.

I sell of ebay, usually to fund my collection. Right now things arn't selling for good money. Sellers and I have lost money on auctions. I recently posted a thread, which was move to the Feedback area where I told of a seller that didn't get the money he wanted for several of his knives and iether canceled the listing or refunded money under the lie that he lost the knives. Ebay can be full of dirty business. You wont get what the knife is worth, I can bet on it. I just sold a 317 in the box, with papers and leather sheath. I got robbed. When I traded for the knife it was worth between $200-$250. That was what they were selling for on ebay. It was the Combine pad stamped Americas Farmers First 317. I sold it a few days ago for half of the worth.

317's typically sell for about $100 if they are in excellent condition and more if they have a 317 sheath. You won't get that today. If you are lucky $85. Sell it to a 300 collector.

Thank You all, this is very good info. I am starting to realize that maybe e bay isn't for me. I have it listed in the trade section, we will see what happens.

I would rather you and others here understand this, than to give out infractions. It is too easy to overlap sales into a discussion forum. We need to keep them separate.

Anyway, good luck on your trade.

And I'd like to encourage Akula again to become a paid member. It doesn't cost much and then you can ask such questions and sell if you want.

I don't even sell, but I'm a paid member just because this is such a great site that I feel compelled to support it in a small way.

A lot of people don't realize that the money you spend to be a paying member here and the money you spend to be a lifetime member of the Buck Collectors Club......this money will come back to you many times over if you make use of the information that becomes available to you.

Ebay is gr8 for buyers but sucks for sellers. Very few knives listed other than BIN price because it's a small market and sellers can get burned with a no reserve auction.

Thats true, although on a rare occasion sellers make more than what the item is worth.
