i normally don't do many mirror finish blades, but here in the last week i got orders for 7. i have spent hours and hours on them. there has got to be a better way a better way lol.

i hand sand up to 2000 grit.

all i got for pads are the 6in kobalts thats lowes sells. there sown pads tho. i got every grit of polish they make in 2 different brands. i got 4 buffers. i start with black, grey, white, and then green. after that i i go to a clean pad with no compound.

is there a better way or better pads to speed this process up a little?????????

I don't know if I can be much help, but I usually start wet sanding after the first dry sand at 400 grit. I keep wet sanding from there up.

Cork belts can help this process and seem to work considerably better for me than a cloth wheel buffer. Also a lot safer when you are leaning into it, and they create less heat.

there was lots of trial and error in my case. i have tried many peoples different methods. your buffing speed and materials also make a difference. a long time ago, i had this black compound that would leave deep scratches the other compounds would not remove. i noticed even hand sanding at 2000 grit with water would leave galls, ( scratches that are deeper than all the other 2000 grit scratches) in the surface. if you sand lightly and change paper often, it lessens the galls. i go up to 800 grit on the grinder, then i sand by hand from 400 grit on up. going up to 800 saves time on the 400 hand sanding. alternate directions with each grit to be sure all the previous scratches are gone. i go to a clean 2000 then buff with white compound.
