Top is Bura HI Village model. Marked with cresent moon and "L" for Lal. Nobody does it quite like Bura. 17 inches, 27 ounces, 7/16 thick. Perfect fit and hardness. Finish satin. Great khukuri made for heavy work. Let's just call it Bura's villag model. Good chama, karda a little small but quite useable. Same old HI scabbard and frog by village sarki in new leather.

Take it home for $90 and that's a bargain.

Bottom is standard village model -- 13.5 inches and 18 ounces, and almost 1/2 inch thick. Little village bulldog. Rosewood handle and big enough to use. Partial tang. Our village kami has it hardened up to about 59 or 60. He's serious. Karda and chakma look a little flaky but are useable. Good scabbard and riveted frog. Overall not bad looking for a village model.

Take it home for $40.

Call or email if interested.

Don't agonize me by leaving that one hangin! (hee hee)
40 sheckels and thats it! I can't believe I've no money AT A TIME LIKE THIS!!!

Congrats to the future owner of the village model. looks cool.

Ferrous, I also like the looks of the steel fittings - don't have anything like that. The satin finished blade and unfinished handle are what I've been thinking about for weeks now. I'm toying with the idea of trying that bluing/mask treatment in a recent thread. See if you can borrow the $40 from a friend - it'll be well worth it, since the village models are among the best deals.

I'm doin' the chair-dance of victory right now! (Not to be confused with the lap-dance of victory - that's something else...) I can't wait to take it into the woods and see what it'll do.

Wonder which looks better - a Bura "villager" or Banspati? It's fun giving these guys free reign. I think my next special order is going to be sending Uncle a roll of crisp twenties and asking for whatever the kamis wanted to pound out that day!

:D

Snuffy:

The thread is one originated by Bill Martino called "Blued and Tattooed." I'm the one who sent the pics of the Blued Khuk with the three suns pattern. I'm Keith Sauers. If you wanna see more pics of it, I have more.

Lemme know if you need some technique assistance past what's in the thread. I'm happy to help. I've also considered offering my services up to the forumites in genreal as well...

Good luck!

Yes I would "trade khuk for blue." Sounds like a great deal, and I prefer trades to sales. I'm an artist and knife knut, not a salesperson.

What do you have in mind?

Hi Keith,

I just poked my nose into some of the other threads a little while ago and saw that you've just decided to join, so I hope you'll pardon my tardy welcome.

The Three Suns is absolutely stunning. (And the seax is no beater either.) You do very, VERY nice work.

I don't know if I'll mess with the Bura yet, but since you're willing to provide helpful advice I may be in touch. I'll have to have it in my hands for a little while and see what ideas come to me.

It'll have to be something appropriate, whether original or traditional - does anyone know of a place where I can find some traditional Nepalese designs that'd go well on a khuk?

Hmmmmm...... Thanks!

I just got my 13.5 inch "bulldog" yesterday (Thanks Bill!). I plan on putting an edge on it and doing a little carving on the handle (Thanks for the tools, Pappy!)

It feels great in my hand. The handle is 1 5/16" at its thickest and despite having large hands - fits very nicely. However, at 1/2" thick, the blade still feels a bit too forward-heavy for light working. Hence my reasoning for a 12" khukuri/bowie for more of your handworking usage.

Still working on the design...

Sorry, Keith, nothing in mind. My khuk stable is small and indispensible. I just couldn't resist the pun on "Will work for food". Maybe if my HIKV flares up and a dozen khuks show up on the doorstep we'll have to deal. :)

Stay tuned.

In the context of my previous post, I'm not sure "stay tuned" is a comforting response. Unless Uncle Bill is sending me some "research", gratis.

:D :D :D
