Hi folks,

Need info on baldor motor, want to replace my 1 hp to a 1 1/2 dc variable speed unit.
If someone has a variable speed motor on there grinder, can you please let me know model # ect.

We have a Baldor dealer in town, but they need model #, volt, and that kind of stuff.

Would order thru True Grit, but if I can get it here I save on shiping, duty and such headaches.

Thanks in advance.

Thomas

Thomas,iv'e got a couple of Burr-Kings w/ variable speed mtrs.,but they were added aftermarket.1=leeson,1= grainger. The only voltage you need to know,is what voltage you are /or will use in your shop=120 or 220/230 v.You might be a lot better off ordering from a source that deals w/ knifemakers,as it sounds like the local motor dealer is not well versed in dc variable speed, which isnt unusual, most only deal in ac motors.DC scares them.

Thomas,

I went out and checked mine.

The Burr King has a Leeson motor, Mod C4D28FK11C, 180V, 7.5 amp, 7S56C Frame. Leeson Controller Model 174100 00, 1.5 hp (220volt)

The Wilton has a Leeson motor, Mod C4D17FK5C, 90 V, 7S56C Frame. 1 hp (110volt)
Controller is a Dart but can't read the Model number. It's been around awhile.

Hope this helps.

Thomas the key bit of information the motor people need is the frame #. In this case the 7S56C frame size is what appears to be needed.

The routine then is to tell the supplier the frame size and tell them you want a DC motor in that frame configuration or equivalent and a variable speed controller to suit the motor. Put the liability on the supplier to come up with matching components. Any decent electrical motor supplier should be able to put together a package in minutes.

The package that I have chosen for my new grinder is a Leeson.

most of those units have a selector inside for 120 or 220v......get one like that and if you can put it on 220...the frame number they are talking about is the mount, so the holes line up with the holes in your machine, as a knifemaker there shouldnt be much problem there........and make sure you get a GOOD controller unit or you will regret it.....the cheap ones dont last and are bad for the motors.

looks like I might be a little bit late, but I have a hardcore variable speed which is very similiar to the Burr King. It hs a Baldor motor,1.5hp.,90v, 2500 rpm.max, spec#35p575z260g1, 56c frame.
