I really like the looks of the bush knife! Ok..I realize the fire starter can be used with the blade,I've always tied a striker to my fire starters so I wouldn't have to use my blade.:)I know I COULD loose my striker and then use the blade but why not just put a striker with the kit? I've always found I have much more control with the striker(being smaller)than using a blade...thoughts on this? What is the waiting time on a bush knife? THANKS!

This is just my opinion on the whole subject. In general, I really prefer to use a striker. Not necessarily the striker that comes with the light my fire firesteels, but still a striker. With that being said, I like to keep things as simple as possible. If I have to rely on a small piece of metal in a kit, getting seperated from my kit, losing it because it is small, etc, etc, I definitely want my knife to be able to handle the task.

The other reason is that my knife is always with me, always close, and I am ALWAYS aware of it (along with at least one firesteel). I can not say the same for a small like striker somewhere.

In general, stuff happens. I want things trimmed down to the fewest necessary items.

My feelings are pretty similar to Brian's. I've carried several kinds of strikers, usually ending up with a piece of hacksaw blade. But I noticed that when I was practicing with my firesteel for an afternoon, I managed to gnaw into my fingers pretty good, enough to bleed a little. That's no big deal, but pretty irritating if you're on a long trip (or in 'survival mode'). The blade was de-horned and all.

The next choice is something with a good handle, which is big and bulky. So why not the knife? Perfect because it's already there, great handle for controllability, tons of area to choose where you want to strike. I usually get better sparks from the right blade anyway.

I too have always liked the idea of having everything you need to get a fire going right there on your knife sheath.

Seldom does anyone get lost and have to build shelter and fire with their blade but still can't hurt to have it right there:D:thumbup:

THANKS Guys. What is the wait time on the knife? A little short on funds because of Christmas.....

The wait time on custom bushcraft orders is about 6 weeks right now.

Thanks!

Dan
