Ok guys...it's time to make your vote known.

********VOTING NOW CLOSED********

I've have several different outfits vie for the opportunity to be sheathmaker for this project and the one I'm choosing to go with is JRE Industries.

Everything's going to work out great - timeline, quality, options, etc.

Let's welcome them on board!

So, how about some pics!

Ok...I guess a pic or two would be nice....

more pics...as promised.

Each sheath by itself with the bushcraft knife tucked neatly inside. :D

And now for the reason I like #2 best...

It seems, to me, to be the most flexible in its carry options...

It fits up to the belt great, can be clipped to a belt loop..and can even be used as a neck sheath.

Here are some pics:

Thanks to Tom Krein for graciously loaning his slender mid-section...:D  :p

Here it is just slapped up on a belt:

Same belt configuration, but with the dangler tucked down - Tom says he doesn't even notice it...actually more comfortable than the pic above:

And here it is as a dangler:

The same things generally apply to #1, #2, #3, #6, #7, #8

One thing I'm not sure about...is the firesteel loop on the front. Kinda sticks out...but I can see why someone might want one on the front.

I voted Six, but I would be happy with 1, 5 or 6. I like the drop hang or neck option of 1 and 6. I think firesteel on the front will look classy. 5 is plain and simple, but I'm not sure of the clip.

Dan, what would it cost for a small chuck of matching natural micarta? I would love an exact match of the knife and firesteel.

I voted 3 but 8 isn't bad either...not a big fan of metal clips. JRE makes AWESOME sheathes so congrats on selecting a GREAT company to make sheaths for this GREAT knife! Can't wait to get mine!! :D

I have about one of each of those styles and they all are great.

The clip one is really nice. Easy to get on but it is VERY secure so you have to pull the bottom of the clip out to get it off your belt.

The one with the little snap or whatever is great if you aren't wearing a belt or if you are backpacking and you want to clip the knife to your breast strap or another loop on your pack.

Number 3 all the way. It is KISS, which is how this one should be and the firesteel loop is in the proper place. Would they all be the same price? This one seems more economical as well.

I've been checking here daily looking for these! Wahoo!

I think that #3 is my favorite, just because it's basic but has all the features I want. So many of them look good though! I also liked #2's versatility, but would carry it on the belt loop most of the time, and think I'd get sick of that heavy metal clip getting in my way. I could always rig something like that onto the plain #3 after the fact, anyway.

#2 is the runner up for me, but #3 seems to be the winner in my eyes! #8 is good, but I'd prefer the firesteel on the side rather than the front.

Any thoughts on cost estimate, or the same as what you originally thought?

i voted 2, for most flexibility. but 3 would be a close second. i don't like the clip ones at all. not sturdy enough. firesteel on the side is definately the was to go.

I like the plain #5 way better than having anything added, since I would rarely carry a firesteel anyway. Also, I can see that clip making a pocket sheath of it.

Numbers 2 and 7 are both awesome. I voted for #7. Now I wish I had ordered a knife! Round 2 I guess.

Esav - Yes, I intended those to be pocket sheaths...the clip would be on the other side.

I don't want to comment on pricing until we figure out which version we're going with. If it ends up being less...then I'll tuck a $5 in with the knife when it ships out. No worries.

Thanks Dan for getting so many different options to us. I really like #2 since I usually wear overalls and could clip it to the side button hole. #3 is a close second. Really looking for the final product and very glad that I jumped in on this project. One ? Are you happy with this project, to much work, long hours, to many options?

# 2 for me as well. I like all the options it offers.:D My 1st thought was # 7 but after seeing the sheaths with the knife & fire steel inserted # 2 takes my vote.

Dan, if at all possible I really need one with more of the top cut away so I can use more than my thumb and forefinger to draw it from the sheath. From past experience I know this "full pouch" style sheath will require me to virtually use two hands to get the knife out. (One to hold it out in front of me while the thumb and forefinger of the other hand try to get a good enough purchase on the itty bitty bit of handle sticking out so I can pull the sheath off the knife with the hand holding the sheath!) Even putting a laynard on the knife doesn't seem to help me get it out of the sheath in any safe and secure manner.

Ignore the Buck Nighthawk, this is the only picture of the sheath style I could find quickly and I don't know how to crop pictures. Would it be possible for JRE to cut down the front of either a 1, 3, 6, or 8 (more likely a 3 or an 8) and add the snapped loop for retention?

Another question, do these sheaths have a welt in them?

Also, what size firesteel are the loops made for? If I remember correctly there is a scout size and an army size which is a bit larger.

Overall I think these are good ideas for sheaths. I'm not a big fan of clips like on 2 but I like the clip from 4. It looks like what Eddie White uses on his sheaths and I EDC on of his model IX's and it hasn't come off yet when I didn't want it to.

I voted for #3.

I like the idea of #2, but I'd rather rig up my own clip system.

Esav - Yes, I intended those to be pocket sheaths...the clip would be on the other side.
The clip is OK where it is, too. I have a couple of pocket sheathes and they can be really secure, especially when I don't want a knife waving in everybody's face. Into the back pocket, shirt out hanging over it. The woods-ninja!

Votes are pretty spread across the board, but Id take #2 and just cut off that metal clip. I liked the idea of the firesteel in the front only because I have not carried it that way before.

What ever comes to be I really don't care, they are all usable and look nice.

WA Martin,

I can't speak for these specific sheaths, but I have this one made by the same guys and the knife comes in and out of the sheath with one hand very easily.

#2 for me. The clip adds versatility and the firesteel on the edge keeps the profile slim.
