The blades I made are both BOS heat treated ATS34 I put back a while ago thinking that they'd be good ones for a rainy day. Both are drilled for the pivot and have a thumb stud hole but the contact and stop areas are unfinished and neither are sharp at all yet. I'd still have to clean it up also. I usually bead blast this steel with little problem doing that finish and as its getting known around here I really prefer that finish whenever possible. I originally planned to use these blades and made them for the Ouparator model (not that hawkbil one but the first model) but I realized after coming up with this BUSSTR model that these blades could work in both models actually.
I have always liked a bird and trout blade shape myself and find it kind of functions well for food prep, field dressing, and regular general purpose EDC needs from opening bags and cutting down boxes to whittling or sharpening pencils to opening mail and all in between. Sod Buster blade shapes are great too though and similar I think in versatility perhaps with a little more belly but it never occurred to me to look at those for this folder. I have a Case Sod Buster model I've owned for years. I'd probably use it as a template to try to copy. I believe its hollow grind if I'm not mistaken. I'm not the best at hollow grinding but then again I have not really tried it much since getting my KMG and 10" wheel so it may be I need to play with that and see what turns up. The two blades I have done could easily be convexed or flat with a regular bevel angle depending on what I end up doing. I'm just showing the one though but they are both the same basically but not identical the way I work. I usually have a lot of trouble getting things exactly the same from one to the next and always have since I have always done everything by hand and not really following an exacting template. Even my pocket clips are totally unique and that doesn't matter if I've made one a thousand times for the same model they all come out with their own personality due to how I have always had to make them. Some come close to identical but with me no two are as close to identical as these BUSSTR folders have been thanks to Dave.
