What handle colors did the Calypso Jr come in, all I can find is the gray handle. Were other handles made? Does any place sell Calypso Jr's with different colored handles?

I'm not positive of all of the colors but I know two. The black handled ones are the origional.

The grey handled ones are a special run that Spyderco made recently. Basically we bugged Sal (Spyderco's president) for a few years to make them for us, and when he felt that it might work he made it happen. :)

Hope that helps a little.

Bryan,

Kevin is right in that the original Calypso Jr. handles were black(Micarta and FRN) with black clips and gold bugs. The Calypso Jr. also came out with a SS handle but the steel was AUS 8, I believe.

Ive got a black FRN with the gold bug. Never used it  SE. Heck I didnt know there were grey ones!

Some prototypes of the Calypso Jr. LtWt. (FRN scales) had burgundy handles, I think. They were dark brown/red. I don't believe that I've seen one in person... just pics.

It would be great if Spyderco came out with a bunch of colors, it sounds like the knife has a large enough fan base to warrant another sprint run of another color. Maybe sometime in the future.

Now that is something I have to look into getting a hold of. Thanks for the input everybody.

A few years ago Spyderco started producing the Calypso Junior Lightweight model with a fish-scale-textured black handle and a VG-10 alloy blade. This was a great cutting tool and was very well regarded by sophisticated users. Maybe because it did not look like a tactical death machine the general public demand was low enough that Sal decided to discontinue it after a couple years. There was much wailing and moaning from the Bladeforums crowd (sophisticate users) so Sal decided to give us one more short production run of them, but this one has grey handles. I don't know if we changed his mind and he will put this model back into routine production. If you can find a grey one, grab it. There is a big risk that you won't find any more after the grey ones run out. They only made 2,500 of them.
