Yeah I know, here I go again. I am asking which one you would choose out of these for a knife that wont see much use: Just for in emergencies, and as a backup.

Good question, except, since the Camillus Maxx isn't out yet, how would we know? :D

I've got the Buck/Strider, which is awesome, and I just ordered a Maxx. I think the Maxx will beat the Buck because ...

1) an integral lock is inherently stronger than a liner lock.
2) the Maxx is actually a simpler design, less to go wrong
3) the Maxx is way longer a blade at 5.5" to 4" for the Buck
4) the Buck has a great grip but the Maxx may be easier to carry

I don't use the Buck as much now as I did in warm weather, out hiking in the woods, and it isn't the most useful blade in the kitchen. I like to work my knives in the kitchen, since I need to cut up food anyway and I might as well cut it up with the best. It's also a great way to get accustomed to the weight and balance of the knife, and to test the edge and see how it resharpens.

BTW, the Buck edge held up real well cutting vines and branches, and the Sharpmaker restored the razor edge easily.

That is a little difficult to answer. I guess it doesn't matter if it is a fixed or folding knife since the solution is fixed and the Maxx is folding. I personally like fixed blades and with the great sheath the solution comes with, it is just as easy to keep out of sight. You also don't have to worry about how well it locks up.

One is a folder, one is a fixed blade. To me, two totally different knives.

I have a Buck/Strider Solution, and it is an awesome blade. They did Mick Strider proud one this one. The Camillus Maxx looks to be awesome - I've added it to my short list of "must have" knifes. It will certainly "raise the bar" in terms of quality and innovation in production folders.

FWIW, I'd be more apt to use the Buck for emergencies (why use a folder when you can use a fixed?), and the Maxx for back-up.

How is the quality on the sheath for the Solution? The SS is on my list of toys to get soon. TIA.

The sheath and the knife are a match made in heaven! It's the same outfit that makes all the sheaths for Strider Knives - Special Operations Equipment. They specialize in web gear, and they are among the best in the business; you would be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn't agree, and that includes their competition (Blackhawk, Eagle, London Bridge, etc.). The sheath is nearly indestructable, and workmanship is top-notch. The pouch is really handy, too - fits my SAK Rucksack (or my Sebbie) perfectly . The Solution and SAK combination, imho, is an unbeatable hiking/backpacking combination!

FWIW, I'm so impressed with this knife, I will also be getting the BG42 version when it becomes available!
